An axe designed for straightforward wood processing and accurate skinning tasks. The blade features a convex grind, where the sides of the wedge are gently curved outward. Such a profile enhances the resilience of the cutting edge. This model takes its name from Gunnar Ekelund, who pioneered large-scale axe manufacturing between 1870 and 1875.

The axe head is crafted from forged Swedish carbon steel using centuries-old traditional techniques. Forging involves striking the metal up to 60 times, resulting in higher density and greater durability.

An ergonomically contoured haft (handle) reduces overall weight while still delivering effective striking power. The handle is constructed from hickory wood, treated with linseed oil for preservation.

A leather sheath is included to safeguard the blade.

An extremely sharp axe with a mirror-polished blade. At first glance you can see that this is not a 'market stall' axe. The profiled handle, a head with protective 'ears', and the finish with an excellent leather sheath. It is also originally packaged like a gift. I recommend preserving it with linseed oil and finishing with wax containing the same oil, and wrapping the handle under the head with paracord. This solution provides extra protection for our already very expensive axe, and we don't want to accidentally damage it. After these procedures, working with it is pure pleasure, and it may even serve as a decoration. I recommend it!

Honestly, what can I say… this is a real axe! It costs quite a lot, that's true, but I haven't had this much fun in a long time… The packaging and unboxing of the product are already exciting… after opening the box, it just gets better… Apparently, there are perfect women, but a perfect axe definitely exists! First of all, the head has such a sharp and shiny grind that you could easily cut deli meats into thin slices… (I think some of my kitchen knives aren’t as sharp) and the smoothness of the grind stands out beautifully from the rest of the pigmented (not to say black) body. The wood is top-notch, contoured, fits perfectly in the hand, the handle is so hard that you could mistake it for a belt… Beautiful, practical leather sheath protecting the blade… Simply awesome! 6 stars!

I searched for a long time, read, watched various tests, and decided on the Hultafors Ekelund. Handmade, you can see the craftsmanship. In the era of cheap Chinese products, this is a beautiful item. If someone is looking for something "natural," I can only recommend it. Fits well in hand. I was wondering about the 37.5 cm length, but I'm glad I picked this model—it's ideal for forest outings for me. And at militaria, it was the best price; with the used points, I can say I paid about one third less than the market value. Highly recommended.

As an update after the first tests, the Ekelund axe splits prepared wood into pieces without any problems, even logs 15 or 20 cm thick, which pleasantly surprised me. The weight of the head at 850g and length of 50 cm help a lot. It also split a felled tree with a diameter of 25 cm in half without any trouble. It bites into the wood nicely thanks to the slightly curved blade profile (since it's a hunting axe, it has that profile for easier cutting). After all that, the axe lost a bit of sharpness—it doesn't shave hair anymore, but still cuts paper easily. For the first few days, I oiled the handle with linseed oil at night and wiped off the excess in the morning, which deepened the color even more, even though it's already well-oiled from the factory. This model is really great, just right, although of course, for splitting firewood on a large scale you'd want a different type of axe. For camping or various home tasks, it's a perfect companion for hikes.

The axe is wonderfully made with full attention to detail, such as the retained patina and scale from forging and hardening, plus a contrasting handle made from oiled hickory wood finished with a great oiled leather guard about 3 mm thick, making the whole thing very thoughtfully designed and atmospheric. But what more can I say, you have to see it. I'm impressed. I thought it would be great since it's premium, but I'm shocked at how well everything goes together. I was considering the smaller Hultan but went with the Ekelund hunting version and it was a good choice. Go for it, Hultan is a bit too small, and this one is perfect—not too big, not too small; you can do a lot of different tasks with it and it's not uncomfortable to carry, whether clipped to a backpack or even on a solid belt. As a hunting axe, it has a rounded poll to aid in skinning game. It arrives very sharp, but that's standard for Hultafors premium axes. In my opinion, this is the most sensible choice among all premium Hultafors axes—basically for almost everything, and at the most reasonable price.
