Kel-Met hand and leg cuffs serve as personal protective gear, predominantly utilized by law enforcement bodies like police forces and border patrol units, as well as during tactical interventions. These restraints are deployed in scenarios that demand the securing of individuals to maintain the safety of both security personnel and those being detained. Common applications include use during prisoner transport or while securing suspects during apprehension.

Manufactured exclusively from stainless steel in accordance with PN-EN 10088-1 standard, the product ensures safety for the human body, exceptional resistance to mechanical damage, and does not trigger allergic responses. No galvanic coatings such as nickel or zinc are present in the cuffs, fully complying with the requirements of EU directive 76/769/EEC-94/27/EEC for items intended for skin contact, as well as draft national regulations.

The set consists of handcuffs linked by a 4 cm chain, leg cuffs connected by a 42 cm chain, and an additional 90 cm chain designed to attach both sections together. All armor-style chains are fastened with rotating connectors. The ergonomic shape of the cuffs minimizes the risk of abrasions and injuries when used correctly.

Constructed from steel elements, the cuffs feature a double-pawl locking system and an adjustable ratchet arm. Each cuff is equipped with a ratchet lock that can be fixed at any setting to prevent overtightening. Accidental opening protection is activated by a key pin; pressing the pin engages the lock, while turning the key disengages it.

Engineered to endure static loads, the cuffs provide exceptional resistance:

• breaking force of 2300 N – applied in the plane of a single cuff while the opposite side remains secured. Full functionality is maintained after the load is released.
• bending force of 500 N – exerted perpendicularly to the plane of the cuff on the same side as the connecting chain. This force does not induce any permanent deformation.

Kel-Met handcuffs are produced in accordance with the following standards:

• PN-EN 10088-1 – a standard specifying the chemical composition and mechanical properties of stainless steels.
• 76/769/EEC-94/27/EEC – European Union directive restricting the presence of heavy metals, such as nickel, in products that come into contact with skin. Kel-Met handcuffs are free of galvanic coatings, including nickel and zinc.
• KGP standard – guarantees compliance with the design, safety, and functional criteria set by the Police Headquarters for handcuffs.
