Njord traditional fire steel Medium

A classic fire steel, often referred to as a blacksmith’s fire striker, crafted in the style of medieval fire-making implements.

High carbon steel forged with high hardness, flint and leather pouch included

Constructed from forged carbon steel hardened to 57 HRC, the fire steel offers exceptional durability and strength, ensuring reliable performance over extended use. The set features a flint for generating sparks along with a leather pouch for convenient transport.

Directions for use

Fire steel serves as an ignition tool for starting a fire with a flint and tinder, an easily ignitable substance designed to catch sparks. Strike the fire steel against the supplied flint. Tinder material, such as charred cotton or another spark-catching substance, should be positioned at the edge of the flint. Upon striking, sparks are generated and land on the tinder, causing it to glow from the heat. Gently blow the glowing tinder into dry material like grass, plant fibers, or wood shavings, then fan the resulting embers to ignite a flame.

I've been playing with this type of fire striker for years. Now it's time to have fun with my grandson. The upcoming summer holidays are a great time to strike the fire striker against flint or your knuckles. It really brings you closer. The striker is forged from high-carbon material and sparks well. Now I just have to figure out how to get cotton or tinder fungus. Without these skills, it will remain a useless gadget. Gathering tinder fungus and cotton is an interesting but somewhat dirty complementary process. Have fun.

The flint is small, but it makes sparks; you just need to wipe off the grease. The flintstone is tiny, like a fingernail, not as big as in the picture, so you'll have to find your own.
