Opinel 8 carbon (carbon steel) - a true classic; the blade cuts excellently and is easy to sharpen; just remember to dry and wipe the blade so that the steel doesn't rust. The handle is made of beech wood, like in the Inox version, but it has a nice 'golden' color.
Opinel No.8 Carbon Folding Knife
A medium-sized, ultra-light folding knife equipped with an 8.5 cm lockable blade. A classic piece from a renowned French brand boasting over a century of tradition. The Clip Point blade is crafted from high-carbon CX90 steel and finished with a semi-matte polish. Featuring a flat grind nearing a zero-grind profile and a slim blade thickness, it delivers outstanding cutting efficiency.
Simple and reliable Virobloc locking mechanism
Once opened, the blade is secured by the Virobloc lock, a mechanism patented in 1955. This system features a steel ring integrated into the handle at the blade’s pivot point. After deployment, rotating the ring a few degrees will cover the slot, locking the blade in place and preventing any unintended movement. The same mechanism also protects against accidental opening when the knife is folded. Opening the blade is facilitated by a notch, similar to those found on Victorinox pocket knives.
Contoured handle made of beech wood
The handle utilizes beech wood, featuring an ergonomically contoured design to ensure a stable and warm grip. Its adaptability for modification stands out as a notable benefit. The most straightforward customization involves drilling a hole into the rear of the handle for attaching a safety cord. Additionally, users have the flexibility to apply any desired texture, carve into the handle, or stain it to achieve a preferred color.

Opinel is a French knife brand whose history dates back to 1890 in Savoy. The founder, Joseph Opinel, created the first folding knife, No. 08, which quickly became a symbol of everyday use thanks to its simplicity and functionality. In 1955, the Virobloc locking system was introduced, later modernized, which is still the hallmark of the brand today. In 1985, Opinel was recognized by the Victoria and Albert Museum as one of the 100 best-designed objects in the world, and the brand's knives also found their way into the MoMA collection in New York. Production takes place in Chambery, with an emphasis on quality and ecology - the wood comes from French forests and the waste is used to heat the factory. Among the famous users was Pablo Picasso, who used Opinel for carving, and the knives themselves have become a symbol of simplicity, durability, and the French lifestyle.

The knife is really sharp and stays that way for a very long time. Its simple construction ensures durability and reliability. Excellent quality for such a low price. I recommend it!
-
The knife is very sharp and handy, it fits in the pocket. It has a very convenient lock that I didn't know before. It's comfortable to hold with its wooden handle.
-
There are few knives of this quality at such a price. Opinel has only advantages: price, appearance, personalization options, quality, and durability. Definitely a knife worth recommending.

My first knife from Opinel. Simple construction, very well-thought-out lock, easy-to-sharpen blade, and timeless look are the features of this product. I RECOMMEND IT.

A very nice classic. Sometimes it's hard to open, but it's not overly expensive and looks cool. I like the possibility of customization. I slightly sanded down the handle on mine, burned it and rubbed it with linseed oil. The result, in my opinion, is a big plus. The carbon blade allowed a patina to form - thanks to that it not only looks nice but also doesn't rust. I recommend it.

A product with soul and history. I recommend everyone to start an adventure with customizing the handle and blade. The knife is very easy to work on. All you need is an idea and a minimal amount of tools - a file, sandpaper, a bit of varnish. Without any special manual skills, you can achieve interesting effects and own a unique piece. I recommend buying and trying it out.

Order fulfilled express fast. Another Opinel in my collection, as always very well made. Carbon steel is susceptible to corrosion, but it has advantages. It cuts wonderfully, is easy to sharpen, unlike more expensive folders in super steel, which, when need sharpening, can cause a lot of problems sometimes impossible to overcome. The blade is not thin, it looks solid. The knife is durable, the construction of the blade support on an internal steel ring, plus an additional rotary lock, gives confidence in heavier tasks. This piece was purchased for modification - personalization. I recommend it to anyone who hasn't tried it yet. Great fun. Changing the shape of the front part of the blade, the handle shape to fit your hand, extra subtle carvings, new color, adding patina and you have a knife nobody else will have, plus you own a solid, light, fully functional tool with over a hundred years of history.

A classic. Well made, lightweight, and very sharp folding knife with a great lock for little money. Worth having in your collection and take care of it so it lasts long. I recommend it!

The Opinel made of carbon steel is amazing. It cuts like crazy. It didn't require any sharpening. The only things I could complain about were a small rusty spot and that the ring needed to be loosened, as the lock was so tight it would even hurt your fingers. Now the knife is in perfect condition. I recommend it to everyone. This knife is amazing.

Very good quality for the price. Nice retro pocket knife, solid, sharp, no play, precisely made. Cool feature with the added cutlery. Sharp and keeps its edge.
-
A classic! The knife of French shepherds that conquered the world. Cuts fantastically. Its appearance is not intimidating. Just the right size for a pocket. You need to take care of the blade and protect it from excessive moisture.

Hello, very good knife. Razor sharp—I almost accidentally cut the tip of my finger off, but luckily, the mil-tec first aid kit helped me. Just be careful not to put it in your pocket while wet because it rusts. Best regards.

Universal knife for various small tasks, factory sharpened very well. Fits perfectly in the hand, very light, you don't feel any weight in your pants or jacket pocket. Despite its very low weight, it is surprisingly solid, keeps its edge well, the lock works flawlessly. After trips outside the city, I usually make sure it's dry and sometimes treat it with knife oil. This is my first, but definitely not my last Opinel. I recommend it, unbeatable at this price.

Nice small knife for wood carving, the lock works perfectly both when closed and open. I highly recommend everyone to get one because it's definitely worth it.
