Black Oxide is a chemical conversion process in which a thin layer of magnetite (Fe3O4) is formed on the surface of steel and other ferrous metals. It gives a black, matte appearance, reduces reflectivity, and does not affect the dimensions of the components, so it can also be used in precision parts. The coating provides limited corrosion protection, so it is usually reinforced with oil or wax. Black Oxide is used in knives, firearms, and tools. The process requirements are specified in MIL-DTL-13924, which covers processing grades, color uniformity, and corrosion resistance tests, and is the basic standard for military and technical applications.

    This multitool is very useful and has been made with exceptional attention to detail. It offers a wide selection of useful tools, and for me, the Philips screwdrivers and the one with the wide tip are especially handy. The pliers work flawlessly; they are sturdy and have no play. A huge advantage compared to basic versions is the ability to open the main blades with one hand. The black oxide has been applied very precisely, and the included case is much more refined than in previous models.

    Mega excellent multitool, massive, practical and comfortable to use. Very solid workmanship as you would expect from Victorinox. The pliers and cutter work great. The case is well-shaped and ergonomic, providing maximum comfort even during prolonged use. The screwdrivers and scissors work flawlessly. The metal saw even managed to cut through hardened steel. An additional comfort of use is provided by the lock on each tool opened from the arms. The blackened steel looks elegant. The case is also superbly made, with a solid belt loop, everything is well stitched and fitted. If you decide to own a multitool, I definitely recommend Victorinox multitools – top quality. I do not recommend any cheap substitutes.
