Mikov is a Czech knife manufacturer founded in 1794 in Mikulášovice in the Sudetes — one of the oldest and most respected knife makers in Central Europe. With over 230 years of history, Mikov is a truly exceptional brand with roots stretching back to Habsburg Austria. Today it is the largest knife manufacturer in the Czech Republic, exporting to more than 50 countries. Mikov knives blend Central European craft tradition with modern production methods, offering a broad range — from classic folding knives to military and hunting blades.

History — 230 Years of Tradition

Mikov's story begins in 1794, when Ignac Rosler established a knife and small metalware manufactory in Mikulášovice (formerly Nixdorf) in the Sudetes. Throughout the 19th century, the region developed into a local center of knife-making, benefiting from strong smithing traditions, access to raw materials, and a river that powered the grinding mills. The industrial era saw the rise of several knife factories, which after World War II and nationalization were consolidated into a cooperative. Since 1989, Mikov has operated as a private company, steadily building on its heritage. Today it stands as a point of pride in Czech manufacturing culture and one of the very few European knife brands with an unbroken record of production spanning more than two centuries.

Automatic Knives — The Brand's Signature

Mikov built its reputation above all on automatic folding knives — classic spring-assisted automatics released via a side button or slider. The Mikov automatic series ranks among the most recognizable Czech knife products: a robust steel spring delivers fast, positive blade deployment; blades in quality stainless steel hold a working edge under normal use; and handles crafted from exotic woods (walnut, amboyna, cocobolo), stag horn, and bone give each model a distinctive character. Available in various lengths and configurations, Mikov automatics are priced well below comparable Italian or Japanese knives.

UTON — A Military Legend

A special place in Mikov's history belongs to the UTON combat knife — the official knife of the Czechoslovak Army and later the Czech Army, in continuous production since 1975. The fixed-blade design, chrome-nickel steel blade, black polyamide handle, and black leather sheath with a built-in sharpener pocket make it a Central European military classic, sought after by collectors and military history enthusiasts alike. Mikov produces it to this day in both the original and collector's versions.
