A tantō is a traditional Japanese short sword, dagger or puginal, found in many variants, ranging from 15 to 30 cm in length. There were single-edged or double-edged variants, Tantō were designed to perform stabs, and were also used to commit the ritual suicide Seppuku. Tanto daggers were often part of the Daishō set carried by Japanese samurai. Since the 1980s, the term Tanto has become widespread in Western culture as the name for the shape of the head of tactical knives designed primarily for stabbing and thrusting.
Knives with a tanto profile head do not have a rounded belly, but a sharp kink in the cutting edge. Such an arrangement creates an angular, very sturdy blade tip. Such construction of the blade provides high strength of the tip against chipping and breaking, since, looking from the tip side, the head quickly reaches its full thickness. Unfortunately, this design reduces penetration properties when thrusting. Knives with a tanto profile head are mainly used in tactical knives, due to the increased strength of the tip when undermining or digging.
Militaria.pl offers a wide selection of knives with Tanto blade profile from leading manufacturers such as Cold Steel, CRKT, Schrade, Kershaw, Walther and Houge. The multitude of color versions and grades of steel used in the knives available in our offer makes it easy to choose a knife tailored to our requirements and preferences.
