The MM-14 camouflage is a modern pattern used on the uniforms of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. The name of the camouflage is an abbreviation for маскувальний малюнок (maskuval'nyy malyunok - camouflage pattern) and the year 2014, when the pattern was approved. Unofficially, the MM-14 also goes by the names Ukrainian Pixel Camo and Ukrainian Digital Camo.
The MM-14 camouflage pattern resembles the American UCP (Universal Camouflage Pattern), but color modifications have been made. The camouflage is a pixelated pattern consisting of five colors: a light beige-straw base, three shades of olive green and dark green. The color scheme has been adapted to eastern Ukraine, where there are many agricultural fields and relatively few wooded areas.
Uniforms in Ukrainian MM-14 camouflage are simple and quick to produce, which is of great importance to Ukrainian manufacturers. Materials used in Ukrainian uniforms come from Poland, among other countries. Originally, production consisted mainly of uniforms. Over time, a range of accessories and tactical equipment compatible with the new design was also introduced to the market. Among others, tactical vests, loaders, pockets, medical trays, holsters, headgear or patches are available in MM-14 camouflage. What's more, the assortment is constantly expanding.
The introduction of the MM-14 camouflage was an important part of the reform of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, which aimed to break with post-Soviet identification. Previous uniform patterns were similar to, and sometimes the same as, those of other post-Soviet states. This made it impossible to distinguish the Ukrainian army from other armies of the former Eastern Bloc. The uniforms of the Ukrainian army not only introduced a consistent image of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, but also influenced the international perception of the Ukrainian military. Although the camouflage pattern is simple, it is associated with a modern army through its unique design.
