How to find your jacket size?

How to find your jacket size?

Finding the right-fitting jacket is a challenge faced by virtually everyone who looking for comfort, convenience and effective protection from adverse conditions. Choosing the right size jacket is also a guarantee of our well-being and appearance. Unfortunately, choosing the right size jacket is not simple and obvious. Perhaps you have happened to buy a jacket or other clothing without traversing, guided only by the size on the product label. Unfortunately, in such situations, it often turns out that the size L you usually wear turns out to be too big or the size S that always fits is too small. Since buying a jacket is a big expense, we have prepared a guide for you, in which we will answer the question: how to find the size of a men's or women's jacket so as to avoid later returns and disappointments.

What are the reasons for the differences in jacket sizes?

The markings on labels can be confusing, and no wonder. Nowadays, there are no longer rules for standardizing clothing sizes that say there is a universal naming of specific clothing dimensions. It is no different in the case of jackets. Sizes of men's or women's jackets vary depending on model, brand and even country of origin, where often the general sizing of jackets is based on the average body measurements found in a given latitude. In addition, fashion is constantly evolving and it happens that some jackets are designed to be more fitting and snug, while others are more loose.

While when shopping in stationary stores we can try on a jacket before buying and make a quick choice, when shopping online we don’t have this option. Many of us do not want to give up online shopping, which is faster, simpler and offers lower prices. So how do you choose the size of a men's or women's jacket when buying online?

Special size charts come to the rescue, which, in the form of simple and easy-to-read iconography, make it possible to compare the actual measurements of the jacket with the size specified on the manufacturer's website. Such size charts are usually placed on the product card in a prominent place. In our store you will find them right next to the size selection box.

Size of men's jackets

Men's jackets usually have less fitting and more voluminous cuts. However, this is not the rule. Leather jackets or very fashionable in recent years bomber jacket look best when they are well suited to the figure. It is different in winter jackets, which should be slightly larger due to the possibility of using additional layers of clothing. In addition, winter jackets often have additional layers filled with down.

Below is an example of a size chart of men's jackets taken from our iconic M65 jackets:

Size Chest Width (cm) Sleeve Length (cm) Outside Sleeve Length (cm)
S 55 79 66
M 58 80 68
L 60 80 68
XL 64 81 68
XXL 67 83 69
3XL 70 85 71

For men's jacket size charts, the most common considerations are chest width, overall length, and sleeve length measured on the outside. If you need the circumference at the chest - multiply the width times two.

Size of women's jacket

Jackets made for women are generally more fitted and closer to the body. However, keep in mind that when buying a winter jacket online, you should add a few centimeters for a sweater, sweatshirt or other additional clothing you will wear under the jacket.

Below is a size chart for women's jackets using our M65 jackets as an example:

Size
Chest Width (cm) Sleeve Length (cm) Outside Sleeve Length (cm)
XS 51 69 62
S 54 71 62,5
M 57 73 63
L 60 75 63,5
XL 63 77 64
XXL 66 79 64,5
3XL 69 81 65
4XL 72 83 65,5
5XL 75 85 66

For women's jackets, the most common chart lists the width of the jacket at chest, the overall length and the sleeve length measured on the outside.

How to measure a jacket?

The best way to use size charts correctly is to measure the dimensions of the jacket we already have in our closet. By measuring your own clothing and comparing the results with the size chart, you will minimize the risk of ordering the wrong size and avoid unnecessary returns. To measure a jacket, find in your closet the model that fits you best or the one you would like to order. Then lay the jacket out on some flat surface (such as a table) and start measuring with a tape measure. You can also use a yardstick to measure the dimensions of the jacket. Then write down somewhere the results of your measurement and compare them with the size chart on the site. Now all that is left for you is to order the right model.

Practical tips

Below we present some practical hints and tips that may be useful when measuring and buying jackets online.

  • Pay attention not to measure clothes that are too stretched out. Choose only those that are the most fitted to your figure. This will minimize the risk of measurement error and allow you to get accurate jacket measurements.

  • To get the chest or waist circumference of the jacket, multiply the resulting width times two.

  • If you are at the size limit, choose a size larger.

  • If you are hesitant in choosing the right sleeve length, choose the longer variant. In case the sleeve is too long, you will be able to roll it up. In case the sleeve is too short, you will be in trouble.

  • Remember that the data given in the size chart may differ by 2-2,5 cm from the actual dimensions of the jacket.
