Polish project

Ostap Hel stands out as a respected Polish knife designer, renowned for his distinctive and contemporary aesthetic. His knives are marked by balanced proportions, smooth contours, and meticulous attention to detail, all contributing to an exceptional user experience. He produces his own unique knife models and collaborates with prestigious brands like WE Knife and Bestech Knives.

D2 tool steel

Forged from D2 tool steel, the blade delivers exceptional edge retention, outstanding toughness, and impressive resistance to chipping. Offering increased corrosion resistance over standard high-carbon steels, D2 is a preferred choice for demanding outdoor and tactical applications.

Drop-Point blade, flat grind, PVD coating

Fitted with a blade featuring a Drop-Point profile, the model offers a blade length of 88.7 mm and a thickness of 3.2 mm. Enhanced by a flat grind edge, the blade delivers excellent cutting efficiency. The surface is treated with a black PVD coating to ensure corrosion resistance and minimize glare.

Flipper, ceramic ball bearings, Liner Lock

Deployment of the knife is achieved via a flipper, ensuring swift and convenient one-handed use. Smooth blade action is provided by ceramic ball bearings integrated into the main pivot. A reliable Liner Lock mechanism keeps the blade securely locked during use.

G10 scales, steel clip

The scales of the ergonomically contoured handle are constructed from G10 laminate, offering high resistance to mechanical impacts and environmental influences. The textured, non-slip surface guarantees a firm and stable grip during operation.

Effortless everyday carry is provided by a flexible steel clip in a tip-up configuration, allowing simple and secure attachment to a belt or the edge of a pocket. The clip is interchangeable for right or left side mounting.

D2 feature
D2
D2 is a high-carbon tool steel classified as semi-stainless, characterized by high wear resistance and the ability to maintain a thin, durable edge. It achieves a hardness of 57-62 HRC, which ensures long-lasting sharpness even with intensive use. Its chemical composition is a precisely selected combination of elements: carbon (1.4-1.6%), chromium (11-13%), molybdenum (up to 0.8%), vanadium (up to 1%), manganese (up to 1%), and silicon (up to 1%). The high carbon and chromium content ensures hardness and wear resistance, while molybdenum and vanadium improve the strength and durability of the cutting edge. Although D2 steel is not completely stainless, its corrosion resistance is sufficient to meet the requirements of most conditions of use. It is widely used in the production of mid-range and high-end knives, including handmade knives and cutting tools.
G10 feature
G10
G10 is a lightweight and extremely durable material, considered one of the best for knife production. It is created by pressure-pressing fiberglass with phenolic resin, which gives it high durability and resistance to mechanical damage. It is chemically inert, does not conduct electricity, and retains its properties at both low and high temperatures. In terms of parameters, it is similar to carbon fiber, but its production is much cheaper. G10 handles are manufactured by precision cutting and cutting, which increases the cost of processing but ensures a perfect fit and long knife life.
PVD - Physical Vapor Deposition feature
PVD - Physical Vapor Deposition
PVD (Physical Vapor Deposition) coating is a modern technology for applying ultra-thin layers of metal in a vacuum, which significantly increases the durability of knives. Thanks to this, the blade becomes highly resistant to scratches, abrasion, and corrosion, while gaining a matte surface that reduces glare. This process allows for aesthetic finishes in various colors, from deep black to gold, which do not wear off like classic paint. As a result, the knife retains its great appearance and full functionality even with intensive use.

For four months, I used the Dundee model, but over time, the blade's bad geometry started to bother me. The Dundee splits rather than cuts, for example, an apple, so I switched to the Flick model, which cuts much better. The blade does not have a bulge that serves only for aesthetics, as in the Dundee. This bulge disrupts the geometry. The Flick's blade is flat. At first, I rejected this model because visually it reminded me of a 'kitchen knife.' Over time, I think the Flick is a better design. When folded, it is slim, carries well, light, the mechanics are great, and it has a much better-working blade. The finger cutout in the handle is also more comfortable than in the Dundee. From now on, the Dundee stays in the drawer. Flick in the pocket.

A project related to the Dundee. Slightly bigger, a bit lighter, more practical blade because it's without nooks and also cheaper (on a New Year's promotion). Lots of color variants. Before buying, you can try it out in a physical store.
