The jacket is brilliantly made, but I warn against buying a size "just in case". Based on my experience with Helikon (e.g., Wolfhound), I thought I needed to get a bigger jacket to fit something underneath. Wrong! Carinthia has already taken this into account in the HIG 4.0 model – the cut is spacious enough that the standard size easily fits additional layers. My original piece was definitely too big for me. If you usually wear a particular size, choose the one in the size chart without adding extra "room"—you'll save yourself the time of exchanging.
Carinthia HIG 4.0 Jacket - Olive
Insulated jacket featuring a waterproof PTFE membrane and a lining crafted from robust polyamide. Designed for optimal performance in temperatures as low as -20 degrees Celsius, it is ideal for a wide range of activities.
G-Loft filling, ventilation system
The jacket’s outer shell is crafted from windproof and waterproof polyamide. Inside, the insulation consists of lightweight G-Loft synthetic down, ensuring reliable warmth even in temperatures as low as -20 degrees Celsius. The distribution and amount of insulation are determined by the ISO Mapping system, which organizes body areas into specific thermal zones. For critical areas most susceptible to cold (the torso), 145 g/m2 of insulation is used, while the shoulders are protected with 110 g/m2. Even when damp, the insulation maintains its thermal effectiveness. Ventilation is facilitated through detachable vents located along the side seams, offering convenient adjustment for optimal airflow.
6 practical pockets
The HIG 4.0 features six functional pockets for optimal utility:
- Two spacious external zippered pockets, both lined with thermo fleece, ensure warmth and secure storage.
- An inner Napoleon-style pocket offers convenient internal organization.
- Three pockets on the shoulders provide easy access to essential gear.
Detachable hood, waterproof zipper, adjustable hem
Featuring a detachable hood that can be retracted into the collar, the HIG 4.0 jacket is secured with a full-length waterproof two-way zipper complemented by windproof trim and a chin guard. Internal elastic hem allows for easy adjustment at the jacket’s bottom.

The velcro panel is an area with sewn-on Velcro tape that allows easy attachment of various additional items, such as patches or pockets.
PTFE is a protective Teflon coating with hydrophobic properties that protects the fabric from dirt. The coating does not change other fabric properties or appearance.
G-Loft insulation is an advanced material consisting of a three-dimensional structure of hollow polyester fibers that trap dry air to form an effective thermal insulation layer. These fibers retain their shape thanks to a memory effect, allowing them to return to their original form after getting wet, washing and heavy use. G-Loft, used mainly in outdoor clothing and equipment, combines the characteristics of natural down and synthetic fill, offering excellent thermal insulation, lightness, resilience and moisture resistance.

The jacket is incredibly warm – tested during a winter overnight stay in the forest without a sleeping bag and it managed without any problem. The G-Loft insulation does its job. However, you need to consider the specific cut: the HIG model is very loose (a spacious "box"), which allows you to wear many layers underneath, but on a daily basis it may feel too baggy. Ultimately, I switched to the MIG model in size XL – it fits much better, although still offers a lot of freedom. If you are looking for maximum warmth and don't mind a very loose cut, the HIG is unbeatable. If you prefer something more "technical," go for the MIG.

The jacket is well made, but it is definitely quite bulky and sturdy. In my opinion, it is not suitable for intense physical activities, more for some calm activities in one place. However, I ended up returning it and purchasing the Mig.
