Cold Steel AK-47 Field Knife CPM-3V Fixed Blade Knife

A durable survival and tactical knife inspired by the design of bayonets used on AK-47 rifles. It was designed by Andrew Demko. Full-tang construction, i.e., with the blade tang extending through the entire handle, increases the knife’s durability. The Clip-Point blade is made of CPM-3V steel. The green handle is made of G10 laminate.

CPM-3V tool steel

It is made of CPM-3V tool steel hardened to a hardness of 59–61 HRC. This steel is characterized by very good wear resistance and long-lasting sharpness.

flat grind, Stonewash finish

The blade, featuring a Clip-Point profile, is 135 mm long and 5 mm thick. It is finished with a flat grind, which provides excellent cutting performance. The blade has a Stonewash finish. The spine of the blade features deep jimping (grooves) for greater control during cutting. A cross guard has also been added to prevent the hand from sliding onto the blade.

glass-epoxy laminate G10, anti-slip texture

The handle of this model consists of two scales made of lightweight G10 fiberglass-epoxy laminate. It is resistant to damage (both mechanical and chemical), and its non-slip texture ensures a secure grip, while the hole at the end allows a safety cord to be threaded through it.

Secure-Ex sheath

The set includes a Secure-Ex sheath for convenient carrying and safe storage of the knife.

Secure-Ex feature
Secure-Ex

Secure-Ex is a high-quality plastic used by Cold Steel to manufacture sheaths and knife cases. This material is characterized by exceptional durability, resistance to mechanical damage, and weather conditions, which makes it an ideal choice for products intended for intensive use. It protects the blade from corrosion and mechanical damage.

CPM 3V feature
CPM 3V
CPM 3V is a premium powder tool steel produced by Crucible Industries, known for its high resistance to impact, fracture, and wear. It contains 0.8% carbon, 7.5% chromium, and additions of molybdenum (1.3%), vanadium (2.75%), manganese (up to 1%), and silicon (up to 1%) additives, which improve wear resistance and structural stability. After heat treatment, it achieves a hardness of 58-61 HRC, providing a balance between strength, durability, and ease of sharpening. Although CPM 3V is not stainless steel, it offers good corrosion resistance and is widely used in the manufacture of military, survival, and hunting knives. It is suitable for intensive use in harsh conditions, combining high wear resistance, better ductility, and longer edge retention compared to other tool steels.
G10 feature
G10
G10 is a lightweight and extremely durable material, considered one of the best for knife production. It is created by pressure-pressing fiberglass with phenolic resin, which gives it high durability and resistance to mechanical damage. It is chemically inert, does not conduct electricity, and retains its properties at both low and high temperatures. In terms of parameters, it is similar to carbon fiber, but its production is much cheaper. G10 handles are manufactured by precision cutting and cutting, which increases the cost of processing but ensures a perfect fit and long knife life.
Stonewash feature
Stonewash
Stonewash is a blade finishing technique that involves treating steel in a drum filled with stones, ceramic abrasives, or beads. The impact of the material creates a characteristic, irregular pattern with micro-scratches, giving the effect of a matte, slightly “aged” surface with a raw, practical appearance. The finish gives the knife an aesthetic look and masks minor scratches and marks that occur during use, keeping the blade looking like new for longer. The matte texture reduces light reflections, which is valued in tactical and outdoor knives, and the micro-scratches can further reduce friction during cutting. Due to its durability, discreet appearance, and ease of maintenance, stonewash is popular in EDC, field, and tactical knives.

A very interesting project for Demko. Solidly made, very good steel for a knife intended for outdoor work. The sheath is flawless. I recommend trying out this model.
