Cold Steel Mini Tuff Lite 4116 Folding Knife - Red

A folding knife designed for everyday carry (EDC). It is a smaller version of the Tuff Lite series models. The Sheepsfoot-profile blade is made of German 4116 Krupp steel, which offers excellent corrosion resistance. The smooth blade has a satin finish. The red handle is made of Griv-Ex composite with a non-slip texture. The knife opens via a thumb hole, and the Tri-Ad Lock ensures safe use.

German 4116 Krupp steel

The blade is made of German 4116 Krupp stainless steel, which is characterized by good strength, corrosion resistance, and decent edge retention. After proper heat treatment, this steel achieves a hardness of 55–57 HRC, making the knife well-suited for everyday use and easy to maintain.

sheepsfoot blade with satin finish

The blade, with a Sheepsfoot profile, is 51 mm long and 2.5 mm thick. The smooth cutting edge features a deep hollow grind. The satin finish gives the blade a semi-matte surface, improving its appearance and increasing scratch resistance. On the spine, where the thumb rests, there is jimping, which increases control over the tool while working.

Griv-Ex composite scales, steel clip

The ergonomically contoured handle is equipped with Griv-Ex composite scales, which are resistant to mechanical damage and external factors. The non-slip texture of the scales ensures a secure grip even with wet or dirty hands, while the finger grooves further enhance control over the tool.

A spring-loaded steel clip makes it easy to carry the knife comfortably every day, allowing you to quickly clip it to a belt or the edge of a pocket. There is also a hole for threading a lanyard at the end of the handle.

Tri-Ad Lock, Thumb Hole

The blade is opened using the thumb hole. When open, the blade is secured by the Tri-Ad Lock, an advanced version of the Back-Lock mechanism with increased resistance to dynamic loads. It is currently one of the most stable and durable locking mechanisms available for folding knives. Additionally, this lock effectively prevents the folded knife from accidentally opening.

Cold Steel is a respected American brand of knives, machetes, and tactical tools, founded in 1980 in Irving, California. The company gained popularity thanks to innovative solutions such as Kraton® handles and American Tanto blades, appreciated by uniformed services and military enthusiasts. It also introduced its own steel alloys, such as San Mai III®, which provides high durability and wear resistance. Cold Steel patented the Tri-Ad™ Lock blade locking mechanism, which guarantees safe use. The brand works with respected knifemakers, including the company's founder Lynn C. Thompson and Andrew Demko, whose passion and experience contribute to the high quality of the products.

4116 Krupp feature
4116 Krupp
4116 Krupp is the trade name for high-quality stainless steel from the German DIN 1.4116 group, produced by ThyssenKrupp. It is used in kitchen knives and medical instruments. The carbon content (0.45-0.55%) ensures good hardness and edge durability, while chromium (14-15%) guarantees high resistance to corrosion and oxidation. The steel also contains molybdenum (up to 0.6%), vanadium (up to 0.2%), manganese (up to 1%), silicon (up to 1%), and a small amount of nickel (up to 1%). It achieves a hardness of 55-57 HRC after appropriate heat treatment, which allows for knives with good cutting properties, easy maintenance, and corrosion resistance.
Tri-Ad Lock feature
Tri-Ad Lock
Tri-Ad Lock is a lock developed by Cold Steel and Andrew Demko, considered one of the strongest systems in folding knives. Its key element is a stop pin, which takes the pressure from the blade and distributes it to the handle, protecting the lock from wear and overload. The mechanism is designed to self-adjust over time, which maintains the reliability of the lock even after prolonged use. In tests, it has proven resistant to loads of up to hundreds of pounds, confirming its durability.
Satin feature
Satin
Satin finishing is one of the most popular blade finishes, achieved by grinding the steel with fine-grained abrasives. Parallel micro-scratches remain on the surface, giving the knife a technical, matte appearance. Satin finishing has both aesthetic and practical significance - a smoothed blade is easier to clean, and the slightly reduced friction promotes smoother cutting. Depending on the direction and intensity of polishing, different effects are achieved - from a matte finish to an almost mirror-like finish. Satin is valued in both utility and collector's knives because it emphasizes the structure and quality of the steel while maintaining functionality.
Griv-Ex feature
Griv-Ex
Griv-Ex is a durable glass-nylon composite reinforced with fiberglass used by Cold Steel, mainly for the production of knife handles, and in some models also for blade components. The material has a textured surface on the handles, which ensures a secure, non-slip grip, and its maintenance usually boils down to simple washing under running water. Griv-Ex is distinguished by its resistance to moisture, corrosion, mechanical damage, and extreme temperatures, and does not warp or crack under harsh conditions. When used in the construction of blades, it is additionally stabilized by UV rays and heat, which further increases its durability.

The knife is really brilliant, very well-thought-out design. I have quite large hands, but still it sits securely thanks to the shape of the handle and the blade, which is also extremely sharp and cuts through cords, cartons, paper, and generally can chew through most materials. Most importantly, it has a solid Tri-Ad lock, which is probably the safest lock in folding knives, although you should always be cautious and take care when using it. I carry it every day for city EDC, it’s lightweight, doesn’t draw attention, but does its job. Highly recommend it from the bottom of my heart.

A very small but surprisingly useful knife. The size and shape of the blade make it perfect for opening packages, boxes, and tags. Despite its small size, the knife feels secure and comfortable in the hand.

In my opinion, it's perfect as a complement to an EDC knife, which I personally don't want to use for opening packages and dulling on cartons. Unlike its bigger brother, it's perfect. Very sharp!
