Cold Steel SR1 Lite Tanto 8Cr14MoV Folding Knife

A folding knife designed for everyday carry (EDC) and tactical use. The design is inspired by the legendary Survival Rescue Knife (SRK). The Tanto-profile blade is made of 8Cr14MoV stainless steel, which offers excellent corrosion resistance. The smooth blade is finished with a satin finish. The black handle is made of Griv-Ex composite with a non-slip texture. The knife opens using a double-sided thumb stud, and the Tri-Ad Lock ensures safe use.

8Cr14MoV stainless steel

The blade is made of Chinese 8Cr14MoV stainless steel, which offers a good balance between edge retention, corrosion resistance, and ease of sharpening. After proper heat treatment, it achieves a hardness of 58–60 HRC.

Tanto profile blade with satin finish

The smooth blade with a Tanto profile is 102 mm long and 4.8 mm thick. It features a high-flat grind, which ensures effective cutting and precise task execution. The blade geometry ensures high cutting efficiency while maintaining adequate strength, allowing for more intensive use of the knife. The blade is finished with a satin finish, which gives it a semi-matte surface and increases its resistance to scratches.

non-slip Griv-Ex composite handle, clip

The handle scales are made of durable Griv-Ex composite, which, thanks to its non-slip texture, ensures a stable and secure grip. They also form a small, one-sided cross guard that effectively protects the hand from slipping onto the blade. The finger groove increases control over the knife, even with wet or dirty hands. The back of the handle features jimping, which provides a secure thumb rest and enhances control over the blade while making cuts.

A spring-loaded clip on the handle ensures convenience for everyday carrying, allowing the knife to be clipped to a belt or the edge of a pocket. The clip is reversible and can be mounted to suit both right- and left-handed users. A hole at the end of the handle allows a safety cord or lanyard to be threaded through it.

Tri-Ad lock, thumb disc

Safety during use is ensured by the Tri-Ad Lock, considered one of the most durable and reliable locking mechanisms used in folding knives. The design incorporates a stop pin that absorbs loads from the blade, effectively distributing them across the handle and reducing wear on the locking components. This system automatically adjusts during use, ensuring it remains reliable for a long time. The blade features a thumb disc, allowing for comfortable opening of the knife with either hand and quick deployment of the blade by catching it on the edge of a pocket.

8Cr14MoV (8Cr14) feature
8Cr14MoV (8Cr14)
8Cr14MoV (8Cr14) steel is a high-carbon martensitic stainless steel of Chinese origin, one of the most popular grades among medium-grade knife steels. The steel contains approximately 0.75-0.8% carbon, which ensures the hardness and durability of the cutting edge. Chromium (13.5-14%) is responsible for corrosion resistance and structural stability, while molybdenum (0.2-0.25%) increases abrasion resistance and improves hardening properties. Vanadium (0.1-0.15%) refines the grain, making the edge more uniform and resistant to microdamage. After proper heat treatment, 8Cr14MoV can achieve a hardness of 58-60 HRC, and in precision-hardened versions even above 60 HRC. This steel provides good edge retention, easy sharpening, and high resistance to moisture, and is used in EDC, tactical, and kitchen knives.
Tri-Ad Lock feature
Tri-Ad Lock
Tri-Ad Lock is a lock developed by Cold Steel and Andrew Demko, considered one of the strongest systems in folding knives. Its key element is a stop pin, which takes the pressure from the blade and distributes it to the handle, protecting the lock from wear and overload. The mechanism is designed to self-adjust over time, which maintains the reliability of the lock even after prolonged use. In tests, it has proven resistant to loads of up to hundreds of pounds, confirming its durability.
Satin feature
Satin
Satin finishing is one of the most popular blade finishes, achieved by grinding the steel with fine-grained abrasives. Parallel micro-scratches remain on the surface, giving the knife a technical, matte appearance. Satin finishing has both aesthetic and practical significance - a smoothed blade is easier to clean, and the slightly reduced friction promotes smoother cutting. Depending on the direction and intensity of polishing, different effects are achieved - from a matte finish to an almost mirror-like finish. Satin is valued in both utility and collector's knives because it emphasizes the structure and quality of the steel while maintaining functionality.
Griv-Ex feature
Griv-Ex
Griv-Ex is a durable glass-nylon composite reinforced with fiberglass used by Cold Steel, mainly for the production of knife handles, and in some models also for blade components. The material has a textured surface on the handles, which ensures a secure, non-slip grip, and its maintenance usually boils down to simple washing under running water. Griv-Ex is distinguished by its resistance to moisture, corrosion, mechanical damage, and extreme temperatures, and does not warp or crack under harsh conditions. When used in the construction of blades, it is additionally stabilized by UV rays and heat, which further increases its durability.
