Helle Raud M folding knife

Folding everyday use knife (EDC) stylistically referencing traditional Norwegian outdoor knives. It features a Drop-Point profile blade made of Sandvik 12C27 stainless steel, finished with the satin method. The handle scales are made of oiled red birch wood, and the knife is opened using a nail notch. Safe usage is ensured by a solid Back Lock type lock.

Sandvik 12C27 stainless steel

The blade is made from Swedish Sandvik 12C27 stainless steel. Thanks to the material's high purity and fine-grained structure, the steel offers very good cutting properties, high durability, and an additional chromium content ensures very high corrosion resistance. After heat treatment, it reaches a hardness level of 53–59 HRC, maintaining good impact toughness and ease of sharpening.

Drop-Point profile, Scandi Grind

The Drop-Point profile blade has a length of 69 mm and a thickness of 2.7 mm. The smooth cutting edge is executed with Scandi Grind, which provides very good cutting properties and facilitates precise woodworking and field use. The blade is finished with the satin method, giving it an aesthetic, semi-matte surface and increasing resistance to minor scratches during use. The blade geometry combines high cutting efficiency with great blade strength.

Handle scales made of oiled birch wood

The ergonomically shaped handle, ensuring safe and comfortable knife use, is made of oiled red birch wood. The model is equipped with a springy, steel clip that can be removed for convenient carrying. At the end of the handle, there is a lanyard hole, additionally reinforced with a metal fitting.

Back Lock

The knife is opened using a classic nail notch, highlighting its traditional character and simplicity of operation. Once opened, the blade is locked by a proven Back Lock mechanism, providing stable blade locking and enhancing user safety.

12C27 feature
12C27
12C27 is a high-quality Swedish stainless steel developed by Sandvik (now Alleima), similar in chemical composition and mechanical properties to 440A steel. It has a very fine-grained structure, which improves its cutting properties and durability. The carbon content (0.52%) ensures adequate hardness, while chromium (14.5%) guarantees very good corrosion and abrasion resistance. The steel also contains manganese (0.6%), silicon (0.4%), phosphorus (up to 0.025%), and sulfur (up to 0.025%), which improves hardenability, strength, and structural stability while minimizing the risk of microcracks and brittleness. After heat treatment, the steel achieves a hardness of 53-59 HRC, offering good impact resistance and ease of sharpening. The steel is widely used in EDC, kitchen, hunting, and outdoor knives. It is characterized by high corrosion resistance, good edge retention, and ease of maintenance, making it a popular choice, especially among Scandinavian manufacturers and companies such as Kershaw.
Satin feature
Satin
Satin finishing is one of the most popular blade finishes, achieved by grinding the steel with fine-grained abrasives. Parallel micro-scratches remain on the surface, giving the knife a technical, matte appearance. Satin finishing has both aesthetic and practical significance - a smoothed blade is easier to clean, and the slightly reduced friction promotes smoother cutting. Depending on the direction and intensity of polishing, different effects are achieved - from a matte finish to an almost mirror-like finish. Satin is valued in both utility and collector's knives because it emphasizes the structure and quality of the steel while maintaining functionality.
