LKW Mauler VG-10 Damast Fixed Blade Knife by Radosław Łęgowik - Black G10

An enhanced edition of the renowned Mauler model, equipped with a laminated blade featuring a VG-10 stainless steel core. Incorporating Damascus steel grants the knife a distinctive blade pattern formed by its multiple layers. Engineered as a medium-sized, robust, and lightweight knife, the Mauler utilizes a Full Tang structure and is fitted with a handle crafted from G10 material in black. The knife’s design and execution originate from acclaimed Polish knifemaker Radosław Łęgowik.

Polish project

Radosław Łęgowik is a Polish craftsman specializing in knife making and the creator of the LKW brand - Libra Knife Works. Since 2007, he has been meticulously designing and crafting knives entirely by hand in his workshop, where he oversees every stage of production, from initial design through hardening and heat treatment. The lineup features tactical knives with contemporary aesthetics as well as robust and reliable survival knives designed for practical use.

VG-10 steel core laminate

Forged from Damascus steel, the knife features a tough core constructed from VG-10 steel, hardened to a formidable 60-61 HRC. This core is encased in 72 layers of stainless steel, which offer reduced hardness yet exceptional resilience, resulting in the blade’s unique patterned appearance. The outer layers of steel ensure exceptional strength, impressive crack resistance, and reliable flexibility even under heavy-duty use. Thanks to the material selection, the blade delivers outstanding edge retention, superior corrosion resistance, and remarkable durability along with further protection against cracking.

Drop-Point profile, flat grind

Featuring a blade length of 97 mm and a thickness of 2.9 mm, the knife utilizes a traditional Drop-Point design with a prominent belly, providing increased effectiveness for slicing tasks. Engineered with a full flat grind, the blade offers a lighter build, while the broad profile delivers excellent ergonomic handling during use.

G10 laminate handle, cross guard

Featuring ergonomically contoured scales secured to the tang with screws, the handle is crafted from robust glass-epoxy laminate G10. A cross guard enhances safety by preventing the user's hand from sliding onto the blade during operation. The end of the handle incorporates a hole for attaching a safety lanyard.

Rigid Kydex sheath, belt loop

Included in the set is a durable sheath crafted from lightweight and highly damage-resistant Kydex. Multiple holes and slots on either side of the sheath facilitate versatile mounting options on gear. A belt loop on the rear side enables secure attachment to a belt.

VG-10 feature
VG-10
VG-10 is a premium Japanese stainless steel developed by Takefu Special Steel specifically for knife production. It features a unique combination of high corrosion resistance and excellent cutting properties. Its carbon content (0.95-1.05%) ensures high hardness, while chromium (14.5-15.5%) guarantees stainlessness and increases abrasion resistance. This steel also contains vanadium (0.2-0.3%), molybdenum (0.9-1.2%), cobalt (1.3-1.5%), silicon (0.6%), and manganese (0.5%), which improve its strength, hardenability, and resistance to microdamage. After proper heat treatment, VG-10 achieves a hardness in the range of 59-61 HRC, which provides an optimal balance between long-lasting sharpness and ease of sharpening. The steel is slightly less resistant to abrasion than ATS-34/154CM steel, but offers better impact resistance, making it more resistant to cracks and chipping. Although it has high corrosion resistance, it can develop surface rust in unfavorable conditions. VG-10 is mainly used in the production of mid-range and high-end knives.
Damast feature
Damast
Damascus steel is a composite material created by combining multiple layers of different types of steel with varying properties. Repeated forging and welding creates a structure with high strength, flexibility, and hardness. Layers with a higher carbon content are responsible for the sharpness and durability of the edges, while nickel alloy steel increases corrosion resistance and provides a contrasting pattern. After etching the surface, a unique, wavy pattern characteristic of each piece is revealed. Thanks to its combination of functional and aesthetic properties, Damascus steel is used in premium knives, bladed weapons, and collector's knives.
G10 feature
G10
G10 is a lightweight and extremely durable material, considered one of the best for knife production. It is created by pressure-pressing fiberglass with phenolic resin, which gives it high durability and resistance to mechanical damage. It is chemically inert, does not conduct electricity, and retains its properties at both low and high temperatures. In terms of parameters, it is similar to carbon fiber, but its production is much cheaper. G10 handles are manufactured by precision cutting and cutting, which increases the cost of processing but ensures a perfect fit and long knife life.
Kydex feature
Kydex
Kydex is a thermoplastic, durable material commonly used in the production of knife sheaths. It is resistant to impact, scratches, and changing weather conditions, and has very low moisture absorption. The sheaths are molded directly onto the knife, which guarantees a perfect fit, high durability, and complete safety—the blade remains securely in place even during dynamic movements. Due to its durability and customization options, Kydex has gained popularity in the tactical and survival industries. Sheaths are often equipped with additional mounting holes with metal eyelets, which increase their durability and allow for easy attachment of buckles, clips, or loops to a belt or harness.
