LKW Mauler VG-10 Damast Fixed Blade Knife by Radosław Łęgowik - Brown Micarta

An enhanced iteration of the well-regarded Mauler model, distinguished by a laminated blade featuring a VG-10 stainless steel core. Utilization of Damascus steel delivers a distinctive blade pattern created by its layered construction. The Mauler stands out as a medium-sized, robust, and lightweight knife, built with Full Tang technology and fitted with a handle crafted from brown Micarta. Renowned Polish knifemaker Radosław Łęgowik is responsible for both the design and craftsmanship of this knife.

Polish project

Radosław Łęgowik, a Polish bladesmith and founder of the LKW brand - Libra Knife Works, has been crafting knives by hand since 2007, bringing his own original designs to life. Every knife is meticulously produced in his workshop, where he oversees every stage, from shaping to hardening and heat treatment. The collection features both modern tactical knives and robust, practical survival blades.

VG-10 steel core laminate

Forged from Damascus steel, the knife features a robust core of VG-10 steel hardened to 60-61 HRC. This core is encased in 72 layers of tough yet resilient stainless steel, forming a unique pattern across the blade. Outer layers of steel enhance durability, resistance to cracking, and flexibility under demanding conditions. The selection of materials ensures superior edge retention, exceptional corrosion resistance, as well as outstanding durability and resistance to cracking.

Drop-Point Profile, Flat Grind

Featuring a blade length of 97 mm and a thickness of 2.9 mm, the classic Drop-Point blade profile offers a pronounced belly, significantly enhancing cutting performance. Crafted with a full flat grind, the blade minimizes overall weight, while its broad profile ensures excellent ergonomics during use.

Micarta Handle, Cross Guard

The handle boasts an ergonomic design and is crafted from Micarta, a robust, water-resistant material based on epoxy resin, offering a reliable and comfortable grip in any situation. Enhanced with a cross guard, the handle provides extra protection against accidental hand slippage onto the blade during use. A lanyard hole is positioned at the end of the handle.

Stiff Kydex Sheath, Belt Loop

Included in the set is a rigid sheath crafted from lightweight, damage-resistant Kydex material. Multiple holes and grommets on each side of the sheath enable versatile attachment options to gear. A belt loop positioned on the back facilitates secure belt carry.

VG-10 feature
VG-10
VG-10 is a premium Japanese stainless steel developed by Takefu Special Steel specifically for knife production. It features a unique combination of high corrosion resistance and excellent cutting properties. Its carbon content (0.95-1.05%) ensures high hardness, while chromium (14.5-15.5%) guarantees stainlessness and increases abrasion resistance. This steel also contains vanadium (0.2-0.3%), molybdenum (0.9-1.2%), cobalt (1.3-1.5%), silicon (0.6%), and manganese (0.5%), which improve its strength, hardenability, and resistance to microdamage. After proper heat treatment, VG-10 achieves a hardness in the range of 59-61 HRC, which provides an optimal balance between long-lasting sharpness and ease of sharpening. The steel is slightly less resistant to abrasion than ATS-34/154CM steel, but offers better impact resistance, making it more resistant to cracks and chipping. Although it has high corrosion resistance, it can develop surface rust in unfavorable conditions. VG-10 is mainly used in the production of mid-range and high-end knives.
Damast feature
Damast
Damascus steel is a composite material created by combining multiple layers of different types of steel with varying properties. Repeated forging and welding creates a structure with high strength, flexibility, and hardness. Layers with a higher carbon content are responsible for the sharpness and durability of the edges, while nickel alloy steel increases corrosion resistance and provides a contrasting pattern. After etching the surface, a unique, wavy pattern characteristic of each piece is revealed. Thanks to its combination of functional and aesthetic properties, Damascus steel is used in premium knives, bladed weapons, and collector's knives.
Kydex feature
Kydex
Kydex is a thermoplastic, durable material commonly used in the production of knife sheaths. It is resistant to impact, scratches, and changing weather conditions, and has very low moisture absorption. The sheaths are molded directly onto the knife, which guarantees a perfect fit, high durability, and complete safety—the blade remains securely in place even during dynamic movements. Due to its durability and customization options, Kydex has gained popularity in the tactical and survival industries. Sheaths are often equipped with additional mounting holes with metal eyelets, which increase their durability and allow for easy attachment of buckles, clips, or loops to a belt or harness.
Micarta feature
Micarta
Micarta is a composite material made of layers of fabric (including canvas, linen, and paper) soaked in resin and pressed under high pressure and temperature. It is characterized by high mechanical strength, resistance to impact, abrasion, and changing weather conditions, as well as dimensional stability, which makes it ideal for knife handles. The surface of Micarta provides a secure grip and can be finished smooth or left with a slight texture to improve control over the tool. The material does not conduct heat or electricity, tolerates contact with moisture well, and acquires a characteristic patina over time, emphasizing the individual style of the knife. Thanks to its combination of durability, environmental resistance, and unique appearance, Micarta is widely used in EDC, outdoor, and collector's knives.
