Wisport Sparrow II Backpack 30 l - MAPA

An enhanced edition of the renowned Sparrow series! A versatile 30 l survival and tactical backpack crafted from 500D Cordura, featuring MAPA camouflage. Drawing inspiration from the popular Raven urban model, the design is optimized for demanding outdoor and field conditions.

durable Cordura construction

Crafted from robust 500D Cordura, the construction offers exceptional resistance to mechanical damage, including abrasion and tearing, greatly enhancing the backpack's longevity in demanding outdoor environments.

2 compartments, 5 pockets, hydration system

The Sparrow II backpack boasts two roomy compartments. The primary compartment (27 l) is equipped with four D-rings on the rear panel, designed for attaching additional gear. A modernized organizer in the secondary compartment ensures efficient storage for smaller essentials. Zippered mesh pockets are located within the main compartment for added security. The lid features a flat pocket that matches the dimensions of the main compartment, about 5 cm deep, ideal for carrying maps, documents, or a compact laptop. An additional small pocket is situated on the front of the lid.

A hydration bladder hanger is integrated inside the pack, complemented by a port for a drinking tube and two loops (one on each shoulder strap) to secure the tube in place.

main zipper, protective flaps

A two-way zipper secures the backpack, extending along three sides of the flap for wide and convenient access to the main and secondary compartments. All zippers are durable, high quality, and fitted with textile pulls to facilitate use with gloves or in challenging environments. Cover flaps shield the zippers of the main sections and front pocket, helping to minimize the entry of water and dirt.

carrying system, compression straps, transport handle

The SAS - Semi Adjustable System Ergonomic Military load-bearing system is designed to provide excellent structural integrity, superior carrying comfort, and efficient back ventilation. Enhanced comfort is assured through quick-release, ergonomically designed and length-adjustable shoulder straps as well as both a chest strap and a waist belt. The underside of the shoulder straps features a dense, snag-resistant material. A dedicated tunnel on the back is intended for inserting a compatible fiberglass frame (not included).

Both side panels feature two adjustable straps equipped with 30 mm fastex buckles ideal for compression and for securely attaching equipment such as a jacket, tarp, sleeping pad, or camouflage net. Positioned atop the main compartment, a wide and extended transport handle facilitates easy lifting and carrying.

MOLLE / PALS

MOLLE/PALS webbing is integrated on the front, bottom, and sides, allowing for attachment of extra gear or carrying essential items for immediate access.

velcro panel

A velcro panel positioned on the front provides a convenient area for attaching patches or emblems, such as a national flag, unit insignia, or morale patches.

MAPA camouflage

The MAPA camouflage pattern was developed by Maciej Dojlitko, who graduated from and currently works as a researcher at the Faculty of Architecture and Design at the Academy of Fine Arts in Gdańsk. He also authored the work The Theory of Deconstruction of Visual Communication: Tools for Designing Military Camouflage (Gdańsk 2015). Relying on a solid foundation of theory and experimentation, incorporating computer analyses of thousands of terrain photographs, this pioneering concept quickly attracted the interest of experts and manufacturers specializing in military apparel. The International Defence Industry Exhibition in Kielce hosted the debut of the MAPA camouflage in 2017 as the designated pattern of the Dromader equipment and uniform system produced by Maskpol, a member of the Polish Armaments Group. The design initially addressed the needs of the Territorial Defence Forces, although the MAPA scheme was also reviewed as a potential successor to the wz.93 uniform pattern for all Polish Armed Forces. Despite this, MAPA has not yet achieved recognition as the official camouflage of the Polish Army.

Main features of the MAPA camouflage in its basic forest variant:

  • Six colors arranged in layers that mimic map contour lines,
  • Colors fine-tuned for optimal concealment in Central European woodland,
  • Application of three-dimensional illusions and anamorphic visual effects,
  • Biomorphic outlines imitating natural vegetation,
  • Bold contrasting features simulating reflected light and natural shadowing,
  • Silhouette disruption achieved through macro-level pattern deformation,
  • Micro patterns recreating natural color noise.

The MAPA pattern emerges as a compelling competitor to leading contemporary camouflage designs such as PenCott, MultiCam, Kryptek, Flecktarn, and the Finnish M/05, and in certain aspects, surpasses them by more accurately reproducing the hues found in Central European forests from late spring through early autumn.

I am the owner of a Reider 75L, so it couldn't have been anything other than another Wisport. The Sparrow II 30L is perfect for everyday use and, for example, two-day trips. It is very spacious, and the thoughtful design allows you to keep things organized. The quality of workmanship is always premium, both in terms of material, zippers, and buckles. This is a backpack for years - I recommend it.

A backpack truly worth recommending in every respect. Aesthetic, full of possibilities thanks to the MOLLE/PALS straps, which allow you to attach pockets from different brands. Durable thanks to the Cordura material, which is virtually indestructible!

A backpack about which probably everything has already been written. Durable, with well-thought-out attachment systems and access to an internal organizer. Worth its price.

Backpack of very good quality. Numerous pockets, external straps, and material that is indestructible with normal use. A Polish company that deserves to be promoted!

The product performs its function well, I haven't noticed any durability issues, I use it 2-3 times a week. The capacity is appropriate, RAL 7013 color is a bit darker than in the offer photo, but that doesn't bother me.

I had to return one of the backpacks due to a manufacturing defect, the refund was quick and hassle-free. I bought another one and it's fine. I grew fond of this backpack model, it's comfortable to carry, the frame is a must-have.

Backpack of poor quality. After 3 months of normal use (nothing heavy, just gym clothes and a bottle of water) the buckle broke first, which was replaced under warranty. Then the seam on the strap gave way, and the warranty was denied, supposedly because the hole was my fault. Overall, I do not recommend it.

This is my second Wisport Sparrow 30. I bought it more out of curiosity to clarify something. In my first backpack, I noticed that the zipper in the main compartment on the back side is sewn with only a single stitch. I thought maybe it was a tailor's oversight? I didn't really abuse that backpack so the seam shouldn't have failed, but it bothered me. I bought another one, and it also has the same single stitching. Couldn't they have reinforced the seam with a double stitch? The backpacks themselves are fine, I took advantage of a promotion and got them. I hope the zippers won't be their Achilles' heel. I recommend the graphite color, it's really interesting.

I have this backpack and I always feel like I have a new backpack… when I counted, it turned out that I've had it as long as my youngest son, which is 10 years. The backpack is super spacious, the zippers are really sturdy – many times I thought they wouldn’t hold up or I couldn’t pack that much, but I was always wrong;D. Despite being 30 liters, it is excellently organized, which gives great possibilities. The strap system is a masterpiece, you can attach everything to the straps with buckles as well. That’s why I bought the same one for my oldest son without hesitation—I have no doubt it will work for him too.

The backpack is very well made. I just bought it but I already like it. Spacious thanks to its structured shape. Strong, thick zippers. After reading other reviews, I bought the back stiffener and it really improves wearing comfort. I like the wide and thick foam straps. The downside is that it's a bit heavy, probably because of the sewn-on MOLLE straps, which I don't really need, since I don't like to hang things on the outside of my backpack.

Opinion after about 8 years of use. The backpack has been used practically every day for work and mountain trips. The product is indestructible, I don't spare it, about once a year it ends up in the washing machine, and the only signs of use are that the color is slightly faded and recently the zipper got a bit loose, but tightening it with pliers helped. On the downside, the hip belt was terribly narrow—I had to replace it with another one—and for me, the frame is essential because without it, it's really soft.

The previous backpack has been retired, so it was time to buy a new one and I decided on this one. After several months of use, it works very well. The two compartments are really handy. So far, I am very satisfied.

The backpack is amazing. Wisport really made it solidly. It has very comfortable straps, and even if you pack a lot into it, your shoulders don't hurt. The pocket layout is very well thought out, and the main compartment has an additional option to secure the contents to the back with straps.

In my opinion, this is one of the nicest and most versatile backpacks. It's excellently made and spacious; you can also easily attach things to it, making it suitable both for the city and for longer trips.

For me, the perfect backpack. Not too big. Great carrying system. No back pain after two days with loads for two people. Very big possibilities for expanding the space with additional pockets and other types of inserts to attach with MOLLE straps. It's a pity that not even one pocket has the VIS mounting system so popular in products from another Polish brand, Helikon. I don't regret the purchase. Mountain trips with it are a pleasure, even though it is not a typical mountain backpack.
