Cold Steel 4-Max Scout AUS-10A Folding Knife - Black

Designed for everyday carry (EDC), this folding knife is crafted by American knifemaker Andrew Demko. The blade, featuring a black coating, is constructed from Japanese AUS-10A steel known for its excellent corrosion resistance. A black handle made from Griv-Ex composite ensures a secure, non-slip grip. Deployment is effortless thanks to the ambidextrous thumb stud, while the Tri-Ad Lock mechanism provides dependable blade security during operation.

Japanese AUS-10A stainless steel

The blade is made of Japanese AUS-10A steel, which is characterized by strength, very good resistance to corrosion and abrasion. After hardening, it reaches a hardness of 58-61 HRC.

Drop-Point profile blade, black coating

The blade with Drop-Point profile is 101 mm long and 4.8 mm thick. The smooth cutting edge is brought out with a high flat grind. The blade is coated with a black coating that reduces light reflections. The design of the blade provides very good cutting efficiency, while maintaining adequate strength, which allows the knife to be used more intensively.

Ergonomic Griv-Ex composite handle, steel clip

The construction of the handle is based on a stainless steel framework, to which are attached scales and a back spacer made of durable Griv-Ex composite. The non-slip texture gives a secure grip even when the hand is wet or dirty, and finger undercuts increase control of the tool. The large, ergonomically contoured form provides comfortable working with both bare hands and gloves. At the end of the handle is a hole for interlacing a safety line.

The knife is equipped with a steel tip-up clip, which can be translated to both sides of the handle for right- and left-handed users, respectively.

Tri-Ad Lock, double-sided thumb stud

The blade in the open position is secured by the Tri-Ad Lock system, which is an improved version of the classic Back Lock and considered one of the most durable locks in folding knives. The design is based on a stop pin that takes the forces acting on the blade and transfers them to the handle body, minimizing wear on the mechanism. The system automatically compensates for the natural working out, keeping the lock secure. On the blade there is a thumb stud on both sides, allowing you to quickly open the knife with one hand.

AUS-10 feature
AUS-10
AUS-10 is a high-quality stainless steel produced by the Japanese company Aichi Steel, considered one of the best in the AUS steel series, used mainly in mid-range and high-end utility knives, produced mainly in Japan and Taiwan. The carbon content (0.95-1.1%) ensures high hardness, while chromium (13-14.5%) guarantees very good corrosion and abrasion resistance. The steel also contains manganese (up to 1%), silicon (up to 1%), phosphorus (up to 0.025%), and sulfur (up to 0.025%), which affect hardenability, impact strength, elasticity, and machinability, improving structural stability and maintaining mechanical properties. After hardening, the steel achieves a hardness of 58-61 HRC, offering an excellent balance between strength, edge retention, and ease of sharpening. It is comparable to 440C steel, differing in carbon content and the addition of vanadium, which improves structural homogeneity and increases abrasion resistance.
Tri-Ad Lock feature
Tri-Ad Lock
Tri-Ad Lock is a lock developed by Cold Steel and Andrew Demko, considered one of the strongest systems in folding knives. Its key element is a stop pin, which takes the pressure from the blade and distributes it to the handle, protecting the lock from wear and overload. The mechanism is designed to self-adjust over time, which maintains the reliability of the lock even after prolonged use. In tests, it has proven resistant to loads of up to hundreds of pounds, confirming its durability.
Griv-Ex feature
Griv-Ex
Griv-Ex is a durable glass-nylon composite reinforced with fiberglass used by Cold Steel, mainly for the production of knife handles, and in some models also for blade components. The material has a textured surface on the handles, which ensures a secure, non-slip grip, and its maintenance usually boils down to simple washing under running water. Griv-Ex is distinguished by its resistance to moisture, corrosion, mechanical damage, and extreme temperatures, and does not warp or crack under harsh conditions. When used in the construction of blades, it is additionally stabilized by UV rays and heat, which further increases its durability.
