Cold Steel 4-Max Scout AUS-10A Folding Knife - Black

Designed for everyday carry (EDC), this folding knife is crafted by American knifemaker Andrew Demko. The blade, featuring a black coating, is constructed from Japanese AUS-10A steel known for its excellent corrosion resistance. A black handle made from Griv-Ex composite ensures a secure, non-slip grip. Deployment is effortless thanks to the ambidextrous thumb stud, while the Tri-Ad Lock mechanism provides dependable blade security during operation.

Japanese stainless steel AUS-10A

Forged from Japanese AUS-10A steel, the blade boasts exceptional durability along with excellent resistance to corrosion and wear. After hardening, it achieves a hardness level of 58-61 HRC.

Drop-Point profile blade, black coating

Featuring a Drop-Point profile, the blade boasts a length of 101 mm and a thickness of 4.8 mm. A high flat grind gives the smooth edge impressive slicing power. The blade is finished with a black coating to minimize reflections. Engineered for very good cutting efficiency, the blade preserves optimal durability, making it suitable for demanding tasks.

Ergonomic Griv-Ex composite grip, steel clip

Featuring a grip constructed on a robust stainless steel framework, this model integrates scales and a back spacer crafted from resilient Griv-Ex composite. The non-slip texture guarantees a firm grasp even when hands are wet or dirty, while the finger grooves offer enhanced control over the tool. With its large, ergonomically contoured shape, the handle provides comfortable use, whether working bare-handed or with gloves. At the end of the handle, a dedicated hole allows for threading a safety cord.

Fitted with a tip-up steel clip, the knife allows for easy repositioning on either side of the handle, accommodating both right- and left-handed users.

Tri-Ad Lock, double-sided thumb stud

In the open position, the blade is locked securely by the Tri-Ad Lock system, an enhanced variant of the traditional Back Lock, regarded as one of the most robust mechanisms available in folding knives. Utilizing a stop pin, the design effectively absorbs forces exerted on the blade and channels them into the handle's structure, significantly reducing wear on the locking mechanism. The system is engineered to automatically adjust for normal wear, ensuring consistent lock strength over time. A double-sided thumb stud is featured on the blade for rapid one-handed deployment.

AUS-10 feature
AUS-10
AUS-10 is a high-quality stainless steel produced by the Japanese company Aichi Steel, considered one of the best in the AUS steel series, used mainly in mid-range and high-end utility knives, produced mainly in Japan and Taiwan. The carbon content (0.95-1.1%) ensures high hardness, while chromium (13-14.5%) guarantees very good corrosion and abrasion resistance. The steel also contains manganese (up to 1%), silicon (up to 1%), phosphorus (up to 0.025%), and sulfur (up to 0.025%), which affect hardenability, impact strength, elasticity, and machinability, improving structural stability and maintaining mechanical properties. After hardening, the steel achieves a hardness of 58-61 HRC, offering an excellent balance between strength, edge retention, and ease of sharpening. It is comparable to 440C steel, differing in carbon content and the addition of vanadium, which improves structural homogeneity and increases abrasion resistance.
Tri-Ad Lock feature
Tri-Ad Lock
Tri-Ad Lock is a lock developed by Cold Steel and Andrew Demko, considered one of the strongest systems in folding knives. Its key element is a stop pin, which takes the pressure from the blade and distributes it to the handle, protecting the lock from wear and overload. The mechanism is designed to self-adjust over time, which maintains the reliability of the lock even after prolonged use. In tests, it has proven resistant to loads of up to hundreds of pounds, confirming its durability.
Griv-Ex feature
Griv-Ex
Griv-Ex is a durable glass-nylon composite reinforced with fiberglass used by Cold Steel, mainly for the production of knife handles, and in some models also for blade components. The material has a textured surface on the handles, which ensures a secure, non-slip grip, and its maintenance usually boils down to simple washing under running water. Griv-Ex is distinguished by its resistance to moisture, corrosion, mechanical damage, and extreme temperatures, and does not warp or crack under harsh conditions. When used in the construction of blades, it is additionally stabilized by UV rays and heat, which further increases its durability.
