Cold Steel 4-Max Scout AUS-10A Folding Knife - OD Green

Engineered for everyday carry, this folding knife is crafted by American knifemaker Andrew Demko. The blade, featuring a black coating, is constructed from Japanese AUS-10A steel, known for its superior corrosion resistance. The handle, presented in a green hue, is made from Griv-Ex composite to ensure a secure, non-slip grip. A double-sided thumb stud allows for ambidextrous blade deployment, while the Tri-Ad Lock mechanism keeps the blade firmly secured during operation.

Japanese stainless steel AUS-10A

Forged from Japanese AUS-10A steel, the blade offers superior strength along with outstanding resistance to corrosion and abrasion. After heat treatment, it achieves a hardness rating of 58-61 HRC.

Drop-Point profile blade, black coating

Featuring a Drop-Point blade profile, the knife offers a length of 101 mm and a thickness of 4.8 mm. The plain edge utilizes a high flat grind for superior performance. A black coating is applied to the blade to minimize glare and light reflection. This blade configuration provides excellent cutting efficiency while preserving necessary durability for demanding tasks and intensive knife use.

Ergonomic grip with Griv-Ex composite, steel clip

The handle is constructed on a robust stainless steel frame, with sturdy Griv-Ex composite scales and a back spacer securely mounted. Featuring a reliable anti-slip texture, the grip remains secure even when hands are wet or dirty, while the contoured finger grooves provide enhanced tool control. Its generously sized, ergonomically designed shape ensures comfortable handling with either bare hands or gloves. A lanyard hole at the end of the handle allows for easy attachment of a securing cord.

Fitted with a tip-up steel clip, the knife offers the convenience of repositioning the clip to either side of the grip, making it suitable for both right- and left-handed operation.

Tri-Ad Lock, double-sided stud

In the open position, the blade is secured with the Tri-Ad Lock system, which is an enhanced version of the traditional Back Lock and widely regarded as one of the toughest locking mechanisms for folding knives. This design features a stop pin that absorbs the force applied to the blade, redirecting it into the handle, which significantly reduces wear on the mechanism. The locking system also self-adjusts to offset natural wear, ensuring continued reliability of the lock. A double-sided thumb stud on the blade enables rapid, one-handed deployment of the knife.

AUS-10 feature
AUS-10
AUS-10 is a high-quality stainless steel produced by the Japanese company Aichi Steel, considered one of the best in the AUS steel series, used mainly in mid-range and high-end utility knives, produced mainly in Japan and Taiwan. The carbon content (0.95-1.1%) ensures high hardness, while chromium (13-14.5%) guarantees very good corrosion and abrasion resistance. The steel also contains manganese (up to 1%), silicon (up to 1%), phosphorus (up to 0.025%), and sulfur (up to 0.025%), which affect hardenability, impact strength, elasticity, and machinability, improving structural stability and maintaining mechanical properties. After hardening, the steel achieves a hardness of 58-61 HRC, offering an excellent balance between strength, edge retention, and ease of sharpening. It is comparable to 440C steel, differing in carbon content and the addition of vanadium, which improves structural homogeneity and increases abrasion resistance.
Tri-Ad Lock feature
Tri-Ad Lock
Tri-Ad Lock is a lock developed by Cold Steel and Andrew Demko, considered one of the strongest systems in folding knives. Its key element is a stop pin, which takes the pressure from the blade and distributes it to the handle, protecting the lock from wear and overload. The mechanism is designed to self-adjust over time, which maintains the reliability of the lock even after prolonged use. In tests, it has proven resistant to loads of up to hundreds of pounds, confirming its durability.
Griv-Ex feature
Griv-Ex
Griv-Ex is a durable glass-nylon composite reinforced with fiberglass used by Cold Steel, mainly for the production of knife handles, and in some models also for blade components. The material has a textured surface on the handles, which ensures a secure, non-slip grip, and its maintenance usually boils down to simple washing under running water. Griv-Ex is distinguished by its resistance to moisture, corrosion, mechanical damage, and extreme temperatures, and does not warp or crack under harsh conditions. When used in the construction of blades, it is additionally stabilized by UV rays and heat, which further increases its durability.
