Cold Steel Hold Out S35VN Plain 3" Black Folding Knife

Engineered for both everyday carry (EDC) and tactical use, this folding knife features a spear-point blade crafted from S35VN powder steel known for exceptional corrosion resistance. The smooth blade is enhanced with a satin finish for added durability and style. Constructed with a black G10 laminate handle offering a secure, non-slip grip. Deployment is made easy via a double-sided thumb stud, while the Tri-Ad Lock mechanism guarantees reliable and safe operation.

S35VN powder steel

Forged from CPM S35VN powder steel, the blade offers exceptional corrosion resistance along with outstanding edge retention. Through precise heat treatment, the blade attains a hardness of 58-61 HRC, ensuring extended sharpness and dependable performance for everyday tasks.

Spear-Point blade, satin finish

Equipped with a Spear-Point blade measuring 76 mm in length and 3.8 mm in thickness, this model delivers a smooth cutting edge and utilizes a flat grind. Enhanced by a satin finish, the blade boasts a semi-matte look that elevates its visual appeal while providing improved resistance to scratches.

non-slip G10 laminate handle, steel clip

The handle utilizes a G10 laminate, constructed from layers of fiberglass reinforced with epoxy resin. This composition ensures exceptional durability, resistance to moisture, and a lightweight profile. An ergonomically contoured, non-slip surface guarantees a secure and comfortable grip. Strategically placed holes in the handle minimize overall weight and enhance the knife's contemporary appearance. A finger groove delivers precise control over the tool, even in wet or soiled conditions. On the spine of the blade, jimping (serrations) provides reliable thumb traction, offering additional control during cutting tasks.

Outfitted with a steel tip-up clip, the knife features a reversible design, allowing for mounting on either side of the handle to accommodate both right- and left-handed operators.

Tri-Ad Lock, double-sided stud

Featuring the Tri-Ad Lock system, renowned as one of the most robust mechanisms in folding knives, the knife utilizes a stop pin to absorb blade pressure, distributing force into the handle and minimizing wear. Over time, the mechanism self-adjusts, ensuring the lock remains consistently dependable. Fitted with a double-sided thumb stud, the blade enables rapid, one-handed deployment.

CPM S35VN feature
CPM S35VN
CPM S35VN is a stainless powder steel developed by Crucible Industries in collaboration with Chris Reeve, used in premium knives. It is an evolution of the popular S30V steel, offering a better balance between wear resistance, stainlessness, and ease of machining. Carbon (approx. 1.4%) is responsible for high hardness, while chromium (approx. 14%) gives the steel very good corrosion resistance, and vanadium (approx. 3%) extends edge life and improves cutting aggression. After hardening, it reaches 58-61 HRC, combining edge durability with fracture resistance. The steel retains its sharpness for a long time and is easy to sharpen, commonly used in EDC, outdoor, tactical, and collector's knives.
Tri-Ad Lock feature
Tri-Ad Lock
Tri-Ad Lock is a lock developed by Cold Steel and Andrew Demko, considered one of the strongest systems in folding knives. Its key element is a stop pin, which takes the pressure from the blade and distributes it to the handle, protecting the lock from wear and overload. The mechanism is designed to self-adjust over time, which maintains the reliability of the lock even after prolonged use. In tests, it has proven resistant to loads of up to hundreds of pounds, confirming its durability.
G10 feature
G10
G10 is a lightweight and extremely durable material, considered one of the best for knife production. It is created by pressure-pressing fiberglass with phenolic resin, which gives it high durability and resistance to mechanical damage. It is chemically inert, does not conduct electricity, and retains its properties at both low and high temperatures. In terms of parameters, it is similar to carbon fiber, but its production is much cheaper. G10 handles are manufactured by precision cutting and cutting, which increases the cost of processing but ensures a perfect fit and long knife life.
Satin feature
Satin
Satin finishing is one of the most popular blade finishes, achieved by grinding the steel with fine-grained abrasives. Parallel micro-scratches remain on the surface, giving the knife a technical, matte appearance. Satin finishing has both aesthetic and practical significance - a smoothed blade is easier to clean, and the slightly reduced friction promotes smoother cutting. Depending on the direction and intensity of polishing, different effects are achieved - from a matte finish to an almost mirror-like finish. Satin is valued in both utility and collector's knives because it emphasizes the structure and quality of the steel while maintaining functionality.

The knife is perfect for urban EDC. Small size, lightweight, great materials, disappears in the pocket, good ergonomics, the blade has excellent cutting properties and comes excellently sharpened. The lock is rock solid, making it a very sturdy tool despite its size. I think it’s a great alternative to the Spyderco Paramilitary 3 and Benchmade Bugout. Much more solid, maybe not as fidget-friendly, but it gets the job done. Visually, I like it a lot. I recommend it.

Great knife. Lightweight and narrow, unnoticeable in the pocket. Pleases both the eye—with its simple and elegant shape resembling a steel leaf, the photos don't do half the justice to how beautiful this thing is—and the ear, as for such a small knife, it's got a very loud click/snap from the blade lock when unfolding/opening the knife.

An excellent EDC. Great steel, small, light, slender, yet with a lot of power in reserve. I sincerely recommend it. The store and customer service, as usual, at the highest level.

Very good, compact knife. Small and unassuming, but thanks to the steel used and the lock, it's got a powerful reserve of strength. Very sharp. The teeth do the job—in fact, an absolute massacre. As for the store, of course, I will always recommend it.

A great small folder. Good steel, solid workmanship, and flawless mechanism. All in all, the only thing to complain about is... the clip. It's a real pocket destroyer. I recommend it, but I subtract one star for the clip.

Compact, excellent, fits perfectly and disappears in the hand. Arrived sharp. Works like a clock. Reliable mechanism. A wonderful model from the Hold Out family. Good for precise tasks as well as for self-defense. I hope they will bring back the HO2. Store service, as always, deserving a 5. I recommend it.

A very interesting little knife, light and made from good steel. Unfortunately, the clip is too tight, but two pairs of pliers and something to protect it from scratches are enough and you can bend it appropriately :-)
