Great knife! Expensive but worth the money. In person, when you hold it in your hand, it makes an even bigger impression. It's something between a knife and a machete. Incredibly sharp, I even tested shaving my own calf! Quite heavy, but handy despite its size. Very, very solidly made, as if custom-ordered. It's almost a shame to use it, it's too beautiful :) For now, I'm practicing opening it with one hand, which isn't easy with this size knife. The automatic opening as you pull it from your pocket is also impressive.
Cold Steel Espada XL Folding Knife G10 AUS-10A - Ruby Red
The folding knife from the Espada XL series is equipped with a blade featuring a Clip-Point profile and a hollow grind, ensuring outstanding cutting performance. A black DLC (Diamond Like Coating) finish protects the blade from scratches and further boosts its resistance to corrosion. Constructed from Japanese AUS-10A steel, the blade is renowned for its high corrosion resistance. The Ruby Red handle is crafted from G10 laminate with a non-slip texture for a secure grip. A double-sided thumb disc allows for easy opening, while the Tri-Ad Lock guarantees maximum user safety.
Renowned custom knife maker Andrew Demko collaborated with Cold Steel president Lynn C. Thompson on the design, which draws inspiration from traditional Spanish Navaja knives.
Japanese AUS-10A steel
Forged from Japanese AUS-10A steel, the blade offers outstanding strength along with excellent resistance to corrosion and abrasion. Following the hardening process, it reaches a hardness level of 58-61 HRC.
Clip-Point profile blade with Diamond Like Coating
Equipped with a Clip-Point profile, the blade is 190 mm long and 3.7 mm thick. A hollow grind creates a smooth cutting edge that provides exceptional cutting performance while preserving sufficient durability for demanding tasks. The blade's surface is protected by a black DLC (Diamond Like Carbon) coating to guard against scratches, boost corrosion resistance, and reduce reflections.
Profiled handle made from G10 laminate, spring clip
Constructed from robust G10 laminate, the handle features multiple layers of fibreglass infused with epoxy resin. Offering exceptional resistance to wear, the handle is also lightweight and impervious to moisture. Carefully contoured finger grooves enhance grip security, ensuring control even in wet or dirty conditions. Equipped with a spring clip, the knife can be conveniently attached to a belt or pocket, facilitating easy transport. The reversible clip design accommodates both right- and left-handed users.
Tri-Ad lock, thumb disc
The Tri-Ad Lock offers outstanding user safety and is renowned as one of the strongest and most dependable locking systems available in folding knives. Utilizing a stop pin, the mechanism absorbs forces exerted by the blade, efficiently channeling them into the handle to minimize stress on the lock parts. Due to its self-adjusting nature during operation, the system continually preserves its high level of reliability.
A thumb disc positioned on the blade provides rapid and convenient opening with either hand and enables swift blade deployment by catching on the edge of a pocket.

Using the Espada XL brings a lot of joy, and the craftsmanship and attention to detail are stunning, making you want to carry it with you every day and take it out as often as possible. I've long wondered if owning such a marvel makes sense, and finally realized that it's made from such good materials and has so much power that you can do practically anything with it. For me, it's mainly a folding kitchen knife, which I use only for food outdoors or at friends' places. In my opinion, it's worth it!
