I’m writing a review of this knife only after 4 years because I got it as a gift from my wife. And I’ll say it briefly — you won’t need any other EDC knife anymore. It sharpens easily, holds an edge well, and is aesthetically made. In short — there’s nothing to complain about. Compared with the other EDC folders I own, the RAT spends practically 95% of the time in my pocket and proves useful both in everyday situations and out in the field. The length is completely sufficient for carrying out most camp tasks. It also usually serves as a knife for cutting vegetables and meat, and there are absolutely no problems with that either. The RAT is a choice not just for life, if not for a lifetime, then for many long years.
Ontario Rat 2 Folder D2 Folding Knife - OD Green
Designed for functionality, the Ontario Rat 2 serves as a compact alternative to the Rat 1 folding knife, making it an excellent choice for a EDC (Every Day Carry) tool. Featuring a blade crafted from high-carbon D2 steel and a handle constructed from glass fiber reinforced nylon, it delivers both durability and reliability for everyday use.
Drop-Point blade, D2 steel
Featuring a drop point blade profile crafted from high-carbon D2 tool steel, the knife offers the benefits of being classified as semi-stainless due to the steel’s elevated chromium content. Renowned for its exceptional wear resistance and retention of sharpness, the blade is finished with a black protective coating to guard against corrosion. Convenient one-handed opening is provided by dual thumb studs positioned on both sides, making operation simple for both left- and right-handed users. Jimping along the spine delivers secure thumb placement for enhanced control during demanding use.
Handle made of durable composite
Constructed from glass fiber reinforced nylon, the handle offers enhanced resistance to breakage and harsh weather. Steel liners are integrated within the handle, along with a Liner Lock mechanism. A deep groove for the index finger ensures a secure grip, while the rear section incorporates a hole for attaching a cord or lanyard.
Reversible clip
Fitted with a spring clip, the knife offers easy portability when fastened to a belt or the edge of a pocket. The clip is reversible and supports four configurations: tip-down or tip-up, suitable for both right- and left-handed users.

After two weeks of carrying it, the action has reached such a level that during opening it can compete with bearing-based knives. After releasing the lock, you can close it by shaking the knife, although it is more difficult here. A big downside is the slippery scales. While pulling the knife out of my pocket, it almost slipped out of my hand several times—the clip holds really tightly. The scales are so slick that with dry hands I always get the impression that the handle is slightly greasy. Other than that, as an EDC it is a fantastic choice. Light, slim, with a great opening snap.

An ideal EDC knife. Slim, lightweight. A solid, stiff clip that is unlikely to get bent through carelessness. Despite the thin blade, it feels very sturdy. Well centered. The scales have light texturing and are rather slippery. They should not wear out your pants. Right out of the box, the knife is stiff. After one day, it develops good action, which indicates that using bearings is not necessary. Both washers are metal (not Teflon/plastic), which makes it comfortable to use in environments where bearing-equipped knives are unsuitable — the beach, etc. For me, this model is better than the large RAT, which as a folding knife is greatly oversized — impractical and uncomfortable as an EDC. I’m taking off one star for the quality of the blade coating. Opening a dozen or so pistachios was enough for the tip to get worn. Maybe it adds character, but Ontario could probably start using a more serious coating. The competition shows that it can be done without causing a drastic increase in price.

Perfect for a suit when you need discretion. In that case, rat 1 won't work, but rat 2 with its dimensions is perfect for me. I honestly recommend it more.

Probably everything about this little rat has already been written. The classic speaks for itself. I am one of those people who will always appreciate it for the quality-to-price ratio. For me, it's yet another Rat in the pack :)

Smaller and lighter, lacks a thumb stud. The difference is that here they used D2 steel, which in my opinion is better than the AUS8 used in the older model. D2 holds sharpness better.

When it comes to quality, there's not much to say because it's in a class of its own—after all, it's Ontario. This model is very nice because it's smaller and handy, so it's more comfortable to carry every day.

I have been using it for 2 months and I am very satisfied, so far there has been no need to re-sharpen it, it keeps its sharpness very well, the knife is compact and perfect for everyday carry.

Fantastic little knife, perfect for everyday use at this price. Highly recommended. You'd probably have to pay twice as much for a similar Benchmade (just to be clear, my favorite knife is the Griptilian).

This is my second one. The first one mysteriously disappeared from my pocket after over a year of use. I appreciate it for the ease of opening it with the thumb of either the right or left hand. Very handy. Well-shaped blade and handle.

I have been using it for some time and I am very satisfied. In addition to its great appearance, the quality leaves nothing to be desired. It arrived as sharp as a razor. The size is perfect for EDC. It's so light you don't feel it in your pocket at all.
-
Nice small folder for EDC. Also, great D2 steel is used here instead of the rather weak AUS8 found in cheaper models. The knife is truly worth recommending.
-
I have the green version, great folder - smaller than its bigger brother, so it's more convenient for daily pocket carry. As for build and quality, there isn't much to say, Ontario has gotten us used to top quality.

Great folder—smaller than its bigger brother, so it's more convenient for everyday pocket carry. As for the build and quality, there’s not much more to say; Ontario has accustomed us to top workmanship.

The cult model with excellent D2 steel. Very well made. The knife is extremely useful and perfect for EDC. I recommend it to everyone; it fits perfectly in the pocket. I like it a lot.
