Magnesia chairs are successors to ferrocerium chairs. In addition to the ferrocerium rod, magnesia chairs are equipped with a magnesium block, which exhibits good pyrotechnic properties and serves as kindling. Using the chair is not complicated. First of all, you need to grind a small amount of magnesium block. Importantly, this does not require special tools, you can use, for example, a pocketknife for this operation (although some models include a special spark igniter). Next, the aforementioned blade should be rubbed vigorously against the flint until the magnesium fire starter begins to glow. The final step is to lay on top of the burning magnesia, for example, tree bark, thin twigs or cotton wool. It is worth noting, however, the safety issue when using magnesia chairs: if the dry season is underway, be careful not to light in a windy place, as sparks carried by the wind can ignite a fire in the forest and cause a widespread fire.
