Cold Steel Engage S35VN Tanto Folding Knife - Black

The Folding EDC knife from the Engage series is designed for Every Day Carry and features a robust Tanto blade crafted from premium S35VN stainless steel utilizing powder metallurgy. Finished with the satin method, the blade gains a semi-matte look that not only enhances visual appeal but also boosts scratch resistance. Deployment is smooth thanks to the ambidextrous thumb stud. Secure blade retention is provided by Cold Steel’s patented Atlas Lock sliding mechanism. The handle, constructed from durable G10 laminate in black, ensures a secure, non-slip hold. A reliable spring clip offers practical and comfortable carry for daily use.

S35VN stainless steel

Crafted from CPM S35VN powder steel, the blade is renowned for its excellent corrosion resistance and outstanding edge retention. Through precision heat treatment, the blade reaches a hardness of 58–61 HRC, ensuring lasting sharpness and superior performance in demanding daily tasks.

Tanto profile blade, satin finish

Featuring a Tanto profile blade with a length of 89 mm and thickness of 3.8 mm, this knife offers a smooth cutting edge created with a high flat grind. The blade’s satin finish delivers a semi-matte surface, enhancing visual appeal and providing greater scratch resistance during operation. A profiled spine supports the thumb, boosting control, precision, and comfort during cutting tasks. The blade’s geometry ensures excellent piercing ability while retaining sufficient strength, making the knife suitable for demanding use.

Durable G10 laminate handle

Rugged G10 laminate scales form the handle, shaped with an ergonomic finger groove and enhanced with a non-slip texture for a secure, reliable grip. The finger groove increases precision and control, ensuring safe handling even with wet or dirty hands.

A spring clip mounted on the handle facilitates convenient daily carry, allowing attachment to a belt or gear. The reversible clip accommodates both right- and left-handed users. At the handle's end, an aperture is provided for the option to attach a lanyard or safety cord.

Atlas Lock

When deployed, the blade is held firmly in place by the innovative Atlas Lock mechanism, patented by Cold Steel. This design ensures exceptional strength and resistance to heavy loads. One-handed release of the lock is made easy and secure by operating the slider positioned on the spine of the handle. For fast blade deployment, the dual-sided thumb stud allows for rapid knife opening.

CPM S35VN feature
CPM S35VN
CPM S35VN is a stainless powder steel developed by Crucible Industries in collaboration with Chris Reeve, used in premium knives. It is an evolution of the popular S30V steel, offering a better balance between wear resistance, stainlessness, and ease of machining. Carbon (approx. 1.4%) is responsible for high hardness, while chromium (approx. 14%) gives the steel very good corrosion resistance, and vanadium (approx. 3%) extends edge life and improves cutting aggression. After hardening, it reaches 58-61 HRC, combining edge durability with fracture resistance. The steel retains its sharpness for a long time and is easy to sharpen, commonly used in EDC, outdoor, tactical, and collector's knives.
Atlas Lock feature
Atlas Lock
Atlas Lock is a modern Cold Steel lock, which in terms of durability brings folding knives closer to fixed blade models. The mechanism is based on two pins and a locking rod that distribute pressure evenly; the stop pin absorbs some of the blade's force, and the hidden spring is protected from dirt. The slider on the back of the handle allows for quick, two-way, and safe folding with one hand.
G10 feature
G10
G10 is a lightweight and extremely durable material, considered one of the best for knife production. It is created by pressure-pressing fiberglass with phenolic resin, which gives it high durability and resistance to mechanical damage. It is chemically inert, does not conduct electricity, and retains its properties at both low and high temperatures. In terms of parameters, it is similar to carbon fiber, but its production is much cheaper. G10 handles are manufactured by precision cutting and cutting, which increases the cost of processing but ensures a perfect fit and long knife life.
Satin feature
Satin
Satin finishing is one of the most popular blade finishes, achieved by grinding the steel with fine-grained abrasives. Parallel micro-scratches remain on the surface, giving the knife a technical, matte appearance. Satin finishing has both aesthetic and practical significance - a smoothed blade is easier to clean, and the slightly reduced friction promotes smoother cutting. Depending on the direction and intensity of polishing, different effects are achieved - from a matte finish to an almost mirror-like finish. Satin is valued in both utility and collector's knives because it emphasizes the structure and quality of the steel while maintaining functionality.

An interesting proposal from this manufacturer for a knife to carry every day. It looks good, has plenty of power, and a pleasant mechanism. I've become fond of it over the past few weeks.

A chunk of a tough folder. Very secure lock. Comfortable handle and a blade with plenty of power. It will be perfect for heavy-duty work, even though it's a folding knife. I recommend it.
