Cold Steel Engage 4116SS Folding Knife - Black

Folding EDC Knife (Every Day Carry) from the Engage line, equipped with a clip-point blade crafted from 4116SS stainless steel, renowned for being easy to sharpen. The blade features a stonewash finish, delivering increased resistance to scratches and minimizing reflections. Dual-sided thumb studs enable quick blade deployment. Secure lock-up is ensured by the patented sliding Atlas Lock mechanism by Cold Steel. The black handle is constructed from glass fiber reinforced nylon (GFN), providing a secure, non-slip grip. Everyday comfort in carrying is ensured by a spring clip.

4116SS stainless steel

Forged from robust 4116SS stainless steel, the knife blade offers superior corrosion resistance, simple maintenance, and excellent edge retention. Heat treatment brings the blade to a hardness level of 55-57 HRC.

Clip-Point blade, Stonewash finish

The Clip-Point blade measures 63 mm in length and 2.5 mm in thickness. Crafted with a flat grind, the blade offers a smooth cutting edge. Finished using the Stonewash technique, the blade features a matte surface that minimizes reflection while boosting resistance to corrosion and scratches. Thanks to the profiled spine, enhanced thumb support delivers greater control, allowing for more precise and comfortable handling. Blade geometry ensures exceptional cutting performance without sacrificing durability.

Durable GFN handle

Constructed from robust glass fiber reinforced nylon (GFN), the handle scales provide long-lasting durability. Their ergonomic shaping, featuring a finger notch and a grippy, non-slip surface, delivers a secure and stable hold. The addition of the finger notch enhances control over the tool, even when hands are wet or dirty.

A spring clip integrated into the handle ensures convenient everyday carry, allowing the knife to be securely attached to a belt or gear. The clip is reversible, accommodating both right- and left-handed users. An opening at the end of the handle enables the attachment of a lanyard or safety cord.

Atlas Lock

In the open position, the blade is firmly secured by the advanced Atlas Lock mechanism, an innovation patented by Cold Steel. This design stands out for its exceptional strength and resistance to heavy loads. Engaging the slider on the back of the handle enables rapid and safe one-handed disengagement. For fast blade deployment, a dual-sided thumb stud allows for efficient knife opening.

4116SS feature
4116SS
4116SS steel is the commercial name for high-quality 1.4116 stainless steel from the German DIN group, widely used in kitchen knives and medical tools. The carbon content (0.45-0.55%) ensures good hardness and edge durability, while chromium (14-15%) guarantees high resistance to corrosion and oxidation. The steel also contains molybdenum (up to 0.6%), vanadium (up to 0.2%), manganese (up to 1%), silicon (up to 1%), and a small amount of nickel (up to 1%). It achieves a hardness of 55-57 HRC after appropriate heat treatment, which allows for knives with good cutting properties, easy maintenance, and corrosion resistance.
Atlas Lock feature
Atlas Lock
Atlas Lock is a modern Cold Steel lock, which in terms of durability brings folding knives closer to fixed blade models. The mechanism is based on two pins and a locking rod that distribute pressure evenly; the stop pin absorbs some of the blade's force, and the hidden spring is protected from dirt. The slider on the back of the handle allows for quick, two-way, and safe folding with one hand.
Stonewash feature
Stonewash
Stonewash is a blade finishing technique that involves treating steel in a drum filled with stones, ceramic abrasives, or beads. The impact of the material creates a characteristic, irregular pattern with micro-scratches, giving the effect of a matte, slightly “aged” surface with a raw, practical appearance. The finish gives the knife an aesthetic look and masks minor scratches and marks that occur during use, keeping the blade looking like new for longer. The matte texture reduces light reflections, which is valued in tactical and outdoor knives, and the micro-scratches can further reduce friction during cutting. Due to its durability, discreet appearance, and ease of maintenance, stonewash is popular in EDC, field, and tactical knives.
GFN - Glass Filled Nylon feature
GFN - Glass Filled Nylon

GFN (Glass Filled Nylon) is a nylon reinforced with glass fiber, offering low weight, high durability, and resistance to moisture and many chemicals. The material performs exceptionally well in demanding conditions, maintaining its strength even under intensive use. GFN surfaces may be completely smooth or textured to improve grip, providing better control and overall ergonomics. The robustness of GFN handles has made this material a standard in the production of EDC (Everyday Carry) knives as well as lightweight tactical designs.

An interesting proposal from this manufacturer for a knife to carry every day. It looks good, has plenty of power, and a pleasant mechanism. I've become fond of it over the past few weeks.

A chunk of a tough folder. Very secure lock. Comfortable handle and a blade with plenty of power. It will be perfect for heavy-duty work, even though it's a folding knife. I recommend it.
