Cold Steel Engage AUS-10A Folding Knife - Black/Black

EDC folding knife from the Engage series, featuring a Clip-Point blade crafted from Japanese AUS-10A stainless steel. Its blade sports a Black Stonewash finish for enhanced resistance to scratches and reduced glare. A dual-sided thumb stud offers ambidextrous blade deployment. The blade remains securely in place thanks to Cold Steel's proprietary Atlas Lock sliding mechanism. The handle, made of glass-fiber reinforced nylon (GFN), ensures a secure, non-slip grip. Equipped with a spring-loaded clip for convenient daily carry.

Japanese AUS-10A stainless steel

Forged from Japanese AUS-10A steel, the knife blade boasts exceptional durability and outstanding corrosion and wear resistance. Upon hardening, it achieves a hardness rating of 58-61 HRC.

Clip-Point profile blade, Black Stonewash finish

Equipped with a Clip-Point profile, the blade measures 79 mm in length and 2.4 mm in thickness. A flat grind yields a sharp, smooth cutting edge for optimal performance. The Black Stonewash finish delivers a dark, matte surface that reduces glare while boosting resistance to corrosion and scratches. Featuring a profiled spine, the blade provides reliable thumb support, which increases control, enhances cutting accuracy, and improves user comfort. The blade's geometry delivers exceptional cutting ability alongside outstanding durability.

Durable GFN handle

Handle scales are crafted from robust glass-fiber-reinforced nylon (GFN), ensuring longevity and strength. Thanks to the ergonomic design featuring a pronounced finger groove and an anti-slip surface, the grip remains firm and reliable. The presence of the finger groove enhances control over the tool, even when hands are wet or dirty.

A springy clip positioned on the handle ensures comfortable everyday carry, enabling secure attachment to a belt or gear. The reversible clip can be adjusted for both right- and left-handed operation. An opening at the end of the handle is designed for threading a lanyard or safety cord.

Atlas Lock

In the open position, the blade is securely locked by the modern Atlas Lock mechanism, a patented innovation by Cold Steel. The design is distinguished by its exceptional strength and ability to withstand heavy loads. Engaging the slider located along the spine of the handle enables swift and safe one-handed release of the lock. A dual-sided thumb stud further facilitates rapid deployment of the knife.

AUS-10 feature
AUS-10
AUS-10 is a high-quality stainless steel produced by the Japanese company Aichi Steel, considered one of the best in the AUS steel series, used mainly in mid-range and high-end utility knives, produced mainly in Japan and Taiwan. The carbon content (0.95-1.1%) ensures high hardness, while chromium (13-14.5%) guarantees very good corrosion and abrasion resistance. The steel also contains manganese (up to 1%), silicon (up to 1%), phosphorus (up to 0.025%), and sulfur (up to 0.025%), which affect hardenability, impact strength, elasticity, and machinability, improving structural stability and maintaining mechanical properties. After hardening, the steel achieves a hardness of 58-61 HRC, offering an excellent balance between strength, edge retention, and ease of sharpening. It is comparable to 440C steel, differing in carbon content and the addition of vanadium, which improves structural homogeneity and increases abrasion resistance.
Atlas Lock feature
Atlas Lock
Atlas Lock is a modern Cold Steel lock, which in terms of durability brings folding knives closer to fixed blade models. The mechanism is based on two pins and a locking rod that distribute pressure evenly; the stop pin absorbs some of the blade's force, and the hidden spring is protected from dirt. The slider on the back of the handle allows for quick, two-way, and safe folding with one hand.
Stonewash feature
Stonewash
Stonewash is a blade finishing technique that involves treating steel in a drum filled with stones, ceramic abrasives, or beads. The impact of the material creates a characteristic, irregular pattern with micro-scratches, giving the effect of a matte, slightly “aged” surface with a raw, practical appearance. The finish gives the knife an aesthetic look and masks minor scratches and marks that occur during use, keeping the blade looking like new for longer. The matte texture reduces light reflections, which is valued in tactical and outdoor knives, and the micro-scratches can further reduce friction during cutting. Due to its durability, discreet appearance, and ease of maintenance, stonewash is popular in EDC, field, and tactical knives.
GFN - Glass Filled Nylon feature
GFN - Glass Filled Nylon

GFN (Glass Filled Nylon) is a nylon reinforced with glass fiber, offering low weight, high durability, and resistance to moisture and many chemicals. The material performs exceptionally well in demanding conditions, maintaining its strength even under intensive use. GFN surfaces may be completely smooth or textured to improve grip, providing better control and overall ergonomics. The robustness of GFN handles has made this material a standard in the production of EDC (Everyday Carry) knives as well as lightweight tactical designs.

An interesting proposal from this manufacturer for a knife to carry every day. It looks good, has plenty of power, and a pleasant mechanism. I've become fond of it over the past few weeks.

A chunk of a tough folder. Very secure lock. Comfortable handle and a blade with plenty of power. It will be perfect for heavy-duty work, even though it's a folding knife. I recommend it.
