Cold Steel Engage 4116SS Tanto Folding Knife - FDE

The EDC folding knife from the Engage collection features a blade with a robust Tanto profile, crafted from 4116SS stainless steel, recognized for its excellent sharpening capability. Finished using the Black Stonewash method, the blade gains improved resistance to scratches and minimized reflection. Deployment is quick and easy thanks to a double-sided thumb stud. The Atlas Lock sliding mechanism, patented by Cold Steel, ensures reliable blade locking. A durable, brown handle made of glass-fiber reinforced nylon (GFN) offers a secure, non-slip hold. Carrying convenience comes with a spring clip for everyday use.

4116SS stainless steel

Forged from robust 4116SS stainless steel, the knife blade offers outstanding corrosion resistance, straightforward maintenance, and lasting edge sharpness. Following heat treatment, the blade reaches a hardness of 55-57 HRC.

Tanto profile blade, Black Stonewash finish

Featuring a Tanto profile, the blade measures 79 mm in length and 2.4 mm in thickness. The design includes a plain cutting edge with a high flat grind for superior slicing performance. Finished with the Black Stonewash method, the blade boasts a dark, matte appearance that minimizes glare and provides increased resistance to corrosion and scratches. The contoured blade spine is designed for comfortable thumb placement, ensuring enhanced control, accuracy, and comfort during use. Blade geometry supplies exceptional piercing ability, while retaining sufficient strength for demanding applications.

Durable GFN handle

Handle scales are crafted from rugged glass-reinforced nylon (GFN), delivering exceptional durability. Ergonomically contoured with a pronounced finger groove and a non-slip surface, they provide a reliable and firm grip. Enhanced tool control is maintained by the finger groove, even when operating with wet or soiled hands.

A spring clip mounted on the handle facilitates convenient everyday carry, allowing attachment to a belt or gear. This clip is reversible and can be positioned for both left- and right-handed use, ensuring versatility. A hole at the handle end enables secure attachment of a lanyard or safety tether.

Atlas Lock

In the open position, the blade is held firmly in place by the advanced Atlas Lock mechanism, exclusively patented by Cold Steel. Engineered for exceptional strength and resistance to heavy loads, the design ensures reliable performance in demanding situations. Engaging the slider along the spine of the handle permits fast, secure one-handed unlocking. For rapid deployment, the ambidextrous thumb stud enables swift blade opening.

4116SS feature
4116SS
4116SS steel is the commercial name for high-quality 1.4116 stainless steel from the German DIN group, widely used in kitchen knives and medical tools. The carbon content (0.45-0.55%) ensures good hardness and edge durability, while chromium (14-15%) guarantees high resistance to corrosion and oxidation. The steel also contains molybdenum (up to 0.6%), vanadium (up to 0.2%), manganese (up to 1%), silicon (up to 1%), and a small amount of nickel (up to 1%). It achieves a hardness of 55-57 HRC after appropriate heat treatment, which allows for knives with good cutting properties, easy maintenance, and corrosion resistance.
Atlas Lock feature
Atlas Lock
Atlas Lock is a modern Cold Steel lock, which in terms of durability brings folding knives closer to fixed blade models. The mechanism is based on two pins and a locking rod that distribute pressure evenly; the stop pin absorbs some of the blade's force, and the hidden spring is protected from dirt. The slider on the back of the handle allows for quick, two-way, and safe folding with one hand.
Stonewash feature
Stonewash
Stonewash is a blade finishing technique that involves treating steel in a drum filled with stones, ceramic abrasives, or beads. The impact of the material creates a characteristic, irregular pattern with micro-scratches, giving the effect of a matte, slightly “aged” surface with a raw, practical appearance. The finish gives the knife an aesthetic look and masks minor scratches and marks that occur during use, keeping the blade looking like new for longer. The matte texture reduces light reflections, which is valued in tactical and outdoor knives, and the micro-scratches can further reduce friction during cutting. Due to its durability, discreet appearance, and ease of maintenance, stonewash is popular in EDC, field, and tactical knives.
GFN - Glass Filled Nylon feature
GFN - Glass Filled Nylon

GFN (Glass Filled Nylon) is a nylon reinforced with glass fiber, offering low weight, high durability, and resistance to moisture and many chemicals. The material performs exceptionally well in demanding conditions, maintaining its strength even under intensive use. GFN surfaces may be completely smooth or textured to improve grip, providing better control and overall ergonomics. The robustness of GFN handles has made this material a standard in the production of EDC (Everyday Carry) knives as well as lightweight tactical designs.

An interesting proposal from this manufacturer for a knife to carry every day. It looks good, has plenty of power, and a pleasant mechanism. I've become fond of it over the past few weeks.

A chunk of a tough folder. Very secure lock. Comfortable handle and a blade with plenty of power. It will be perfect for heavy-duty work, even though it's a folding knife. I recommend it.
