Cold Steel Engage 4116SS Folding Knife - Blaze Orange

The Folding EDC Knife from the Engage series stands out as a reliable Every Day Carry tool, featuring a clip-point blade crafted from 4116SS stainless steel, valued for its simple sharpening process. Enhanced with a Black Stonewash finish, the blade offers improved resistance to scratches and minimizes glare from reflected light. Dual thumb studs allow for quick and easy deployment, while the blade is secured by the innovative Atlas Lock sliding system, a patented mechanism from Cold Steel. The ergonomic handle, finished in high-visibility Orange, is constructed of glass-filled nylon (GFN) to deliver a secure, non-slip grip. An integrated spring clip ensures comfortable and convenient carry for daily use.

4116SS stainless steel

Forged from rugged 4116SS stainless steel, the knife blade offers excellent corrosion resistance, straightforward maintenance, and long-lasting edge retention. Heat treatment ensures a blade hardness of 55-57 HRC.

Clip-Point profile blade, Black Stonewash finish

Featuring a Clip-Point profile, the blade measures 79 mm in length and 2.4 mm in thickness. The edge is smooth, crafted with a flat grind for optimal performance. The blade is treated with the Black Stonewash finish, which provides a dark, matte look that minimizes glare and boosts resistance to corrosion and scratches. The shaped spine offers additional thumb support, increasing control and comfort for more precise and effortless use. The blade’s geometry delivers outstanding cutting efficiency while preserving strong durability.

Durable handle made of GFN

Constructed from robust glass-filled nylon (GFN), the handle scales offer lasting durability. Thoughtful ergonomic design, featuring a pronounced finger groove and a textured, non-slip surface, ensures a secure and reliable hold. Even when hands are wet or dirty, the finger groove delivers enhanced tool control.

A spring clip mounted on the handle provides convenient daily carry, enabling the knife to be secured to a belt or gear. The reversible clip accommodates both right- and left-handed users. At the handle’s end, a hole makes it easy to attach a safety line or lanyard.

Atlas Lock

Once opened, the blade is firmly secured by the modern Atlas Lock mechanism, a patented innovation from Cold Steel. Distinguished by exceptional strength and load resistance, this design ensures reliable performance. The conveniently placed slider on the back of the handle enables swift and safe one-handed unlocking. For rapid deployment, a double-sided thumb stud is incorporated, facilitating quick blade opening.

4116SS feature
4116SS
4116SS steel is the commercial name for high-quality 1.4116 stainless steel from the German DIN group, widely used in kitchen knives and medical tools. The carbon content (0.45-0.55%) ensures good hardness and edge durability, while chromium (14-15%) guarantees high resistance to corrosion and oxidation. The steel also contains molybdenum (up to 0.6%), vanadium (up to 0.2%), manganese (up to 1%), silicon (up to 1%), and a small amount of nickel (up to 1%). It achieves a hardness of 55-57 HRC after appropriate heat treatment, which allows for knives with good cutting properties, easy maintenance, and corrosion resistance.
Atlas Lock feature
Atlas Lock
Atlas Lock is a modern Cold Steel lock, which in terms of durability brings folding knives closer to fixed blade models. The mechanism is based on two pins and a locking rod that distribute pressure evenly; the stop pin absorbs some of the blade's force, and the hidden spring is protected from dirt. The slider on the back of the handle allows for quick, two-way, and safe folding with one hand.
Stonewash feature
Stonewash
Stonewash is a blade finishing technique that involves treating steel in a drum filled with stones, ceramic abrasives, or beads. The impact of the material creates a characteristic, irregular pattern with micro-scratches, giving the effect of a matte, slightly “aged” surface with a raw, practical appearance. The finish gives the knife an aesthetic look and masks minor scratches and marks that occur during use, keeping the blade looking like new for longer. The matte texture reduces light reflections, which is valued in tactical and outdoor knives, and the micro-scratches can further reduce friction during cutting. Due to its durability, discreet appearance, and ease of maintenance, stonewash is popular in EDC, field, and tactical knives.
GFN - Glass Filled Nylon feature
GFN - Glass Filled Nylon

GFN (Glass Filled Nylon) is a nylon reinforced with glass fiber, offering low weight, high durability, and resistance to moisture and many chemicals. The material performs exceptionally well in demanding conditions, maintaining its strength even under intensive use. GFN surfaces may be completely smooth or textured to improve grip, providing better control and overall ergonomics. The robustness of GFN handles has made this material a standard in the production of EDC (Everyday Carry) knives as well as lightweight tactical designs.

An interesting proposal from this manufacturer for a knife to carry every day. It looks good, has plenty of power, and a pleasant mechanism. I've become fond of it over the past few weeks.

A chunk of a tough folder. Very secure lock. Comfortable handle and a blade with plenty of power. It will be perfect for heavy-duty work, even though it's a folding knife. I recommend it.
