Dom Wydawniczy Rebis is one of the largest and most prestigious independent publishers in Poland, operating since 1990. The company was founded in Poznań by Tomasz Szponder and Tadeusz Zysk — employees of the Psychology Department at the Polish Academy of Sciences. Over more than three decades, Rebis has established itself as a leading publisher of historical literature, fantasy, thrillers, biographies, and non-fiction guides, earning the Publisher of the Year 2009 title along with numerous industry awards and prestigious recognitions for individual titles.

History and Development

Rebis launched in 1990 publishing fiction and self-help titles, with Colin Wilson's "The Mind Parasites" as its very first release. Its how-to series quickly gained recognition — including titles covering sexology and interpersonal relationships. Over time, the publisher expanded its catalog to include historical literature, fantasy and SF, thrillers, biographies and biographical novels, as well as business and psychology titles.

The publisher's market position was cemented by a series of bestselling translations — "Men Are from Mars, Women Are from Venus," Elizabeth Gilbert's "Eat, Pray, Love" (released in a print run of 110,000 copies), and editions from popular fantasy authors such as Neil Gaiman. Today, Rebis ranks among Poland's largest publishers of historical literature, offering both translated classics and Polish titles covering the most significant events in Polish and world history.

Historical and Military Literature

In the context of Rebis's presence on Militaria.pl, the publisher's extensive catalog of military history, armed conflicts, and commanders' biographies plays a central role. Rebis publishes authoritative historical works covering World War II, contemporary conflicts, the history of armed forces and intelligence services, as well as frontline reportage from current theaters of war. Titles dedicated to the war in Ukraine, the history of the Polish military, and the great battles of the 20th century are permanent fixtures in the publisher's catalog and consistently popular among military history enthusiasts.

High editorial and substantive standards, careful selection of authors and translators, and polished graphic design are the hallmarks of the publisher — qualities that make Rebis titles widely regarded as credible and valuable.

Awards and Recognition

Over three decades, Rebis has earned numerous prestigious awards: the Publisher of the Year title (2009), seven consecutive "Fair Play Enterprise" statuettes, 11 "Book of the Year" awards, and the Historical Book of the Year award in the IPN competition held under the patronage of the President of the Republic of Poland. These distinctions affirm the publisher's exceptional standing in terms of both title quality and business ethics.
